YOUR SUPPORT HAS MADE AN POSITIVE IMPACT!
We were kept very busy in the first half of 2016 addressing issues affecting the most needy of the people in Dominica, which is one of the poorest of the islands in the eastern Caribbean Sea We clearly made the right decision to focus on Dominica for the next few years, not only because there are so many opportunities to share God's blessings with the people most in need, but also because all of the Dominicans have been so supportive and appreciative.
Whether from people along the street that are virtually homeless or from cabinet ministers in the national government , we have received warm, sincere expressions of gratitude.
As much as we feel good about what Macario Advantage accomplished in the first half of this year, we hardly made a dent in the serious issues that negatively impact many of the people in Dominica. Future projects that Macario Advantage is planning for late 2016 - early 2017 include the following:
Remodel the kitchen of Lamb’s Feast facility
Lamb’s Feast has prepared and distributed hot meals to home-bound elderly throughout the community for the past 15 years. The recipients of the meals are either in such poor health that they cannot leave their house, or they are caring for one or more family members that need constant attention due to physical or mental deficiencies. The existing Lamb’s Feast kitchen is in desperate need of repair. It needs to be totally re-modeled and re-outfitted, including replacing the rotten wood in the floor and opening up the area to allow additional area for preparation of food. The total cost of refurbishment is estimated to be US$7,000.00.
Assist in re-outfitting the Northern District Home For The Aged
The fittings are in desperate need of replacement. The most desperate need is for two clothes washers & dryers (220v). Total estimated cost of all needed fittings is US$4,000.
Assist in re-outfitting Operation Youth Quake (OYQ)
OYQ is a non-profit, non government organization working with troubled and displaced young people between 12-18 years old. The institution cares for and provides rehabilitation and educational development opportunities for children and young adults that have been abused or abandoned. The government has recently allotted funds for structural repairs to the home, but they also desperately need 12 bunk beds. The previous bunk beds that the youth were sleeping in were in bad repair and mostly destroyed by wood ants.
The cost of the 12 bunk beds is US$6,000.00. Each bunk bed is US$500.00.
