Grand Entrance

Imagine driving up to the Sanctuary greeted by this inviting and welcoming entrance! One of our big projects this year is creating a Grand Entrance and Beautifying the whole upper portion of the Sanctuary. As a public park, we want people to know that Carolina Memorial Sanctuary invites them to walk on in and explore the beauty of our conservation site and green cemetery; to come in and enjoy contemplative walks and picnics. The photo of the archway above will serve as our inspiration for the Grand Entrance, and will be just one of many new features to the design. We have already hired Mary Weber, a Landscape Architect who is specializes in using native plants, to design the entry area. We are excited to make Carolina Memorial Sanctuary an even more welcoming place to the public and our guests.

Picking Your Final Resting Place:
“How will I know when
I’ve found my spot?”

I’m often asked “How will I know when I’ve found my spot?”  It takes a little bit of time, a quiet mind and an open heart and then, you will simply know.

In this blog, our Director Caroline Yongue explores the process of choosing your final resting place.

Radio Interview:
A Better World

On his radio show A Better World (WPVM 103.7), host McNair Ezzard interviewed Caroline Yongue (Director of Carolina Memorial Sanctuary and Center for End of Life Transitions - CEOLT) and Ruth Ostrenga (Teacher and Death Midwife at CEOLT). If you haven't had a chance listen yet, it's a touching interview that explores how death has been a heart opening and integral part of Caroline and Ruth's practice and why they do this work.

Controlled Burn

The burn happened! On the very. last. possible. day. The weather conditions weren't as ideal as we were hoping for, but something is better than nothing. We will more than likely do another controlled burn this Fall.
