IN THIS ISSUE (Click titles to read more)
As my two-year term as your PTO President winds down, I'd like to thank you for the opportunity to serve you. I'm filled with gratitude to have had the opportunity to make the world a better place for our children.

You are Edison PTO...we are a team...working together to help our children soar. We're a diverse group, where we all belong, playing off each others strengths. Do the things you enjoy and together we'll make this school excel.

If you're looking to take your involvement up a notch, there are a few PTO Board positions available. Contact any Board member to get more information, nominations will be held 3/8/2017. Diversity is key for keeping our group strong, so please consider sharing your talents.

"Use what talent you possess:
the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best."

– Henry Van Dyke

Amy Schaum, Edison PTO President

Join us for our second annual Purses 4 a Purpose Fundraiser! This year's event will be held Friday, April 28th at the American-Croation Hall in Eastlake. Doors open at 6:30 pm, with dinner served at 7:30 pm. Your ticket includes dinner, open beer/wine bar and entry for multiple chances to win several designer handbags! There will also be additional side raffles for purchase to give you more chances to win other great prizes.Tickets are $40 per person, or gather a table of 10 people for $350 ($35 per person). For more information - see the Purses 4 a Purpose page on the PTO website.
In order for Purses 4 a Purpose (P4P) to be successful, it requires the generosity of purse sponsors, local buinesses and our Edison families! This is one of our biggest community fundraisers of the year - last year we made $9,700!

This week you will receive a request for donations through your child's folder. We are looking for anything from a donation of your time for professional or trade services, to unused gift cards lying around your house, to items that could be combined into a great theme basket.

Consider organizing a class basket - it's an inexpensive way for many families to contribute a small amount, but with a big payback when it's raffled off at the P4P event.

If you would like to donate items, contact Stacy Fink at 216.570.3985. If you would like to organize a basket on behalf of your class, contact Beth Tigue-Matos at 773.562.7259 (mobile).

If you know any business owners that would like to sponsor a purse or donate items - you can link them to information from our Sponsorship and Donation page.
Would you like to organize a movie night at Edison?  We're looking for a coordinator for this event. Please email if you're interested in leading this event. Please contact us by March 21st, or we will have to cancel this event.
Save the Date
Spring Book Fair: April 12 & 13
This book fair will be during school hours only, so be sure to send in money with students for purchases. This event is a BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) event. For every book purchased, one of equal or less value will be free.

We will need lots of volunteers to staff the Fair - if you are available, please SIGN UP TO HELP.

If you have questions about the Book Fair, contact Matthew Ballard at or (440) 944-0295.
Celebrating Thomas Edison
To celebrate Thomas Edison's birthday on February 11th, the students all received a lightbulb stress ball/keychain.

Additionally, there were announcements throughout the week to allow the kids to get to know about Thomas Edison's life and inventions.  This was sponsored by PTO. We also had a craft night at the school making thaumatropes, to help us experience how Edison's moving pictures worked.

Thomas Edison made our world a better place and the PTO is trying to make our school a better place.  Thank you for being involved with a group that makes Edison soar!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES are available for the following upcoming PTO events. If you are able give us a little of your time, click the link and go to Sign-Up Genius where you can plug your name in to volunteer. Keep in mind volunteer work is also a great way for those looking for employment to gain or retain skills.

Fundraising Update
Our goal for the 2016-17 year is to raise $30,000.
We are past the halfway point at $20,500!

Spring Fundraiser
Thanks to all the families that participated in the Spring Fundraiser by selling or buying cookies dough, pizzas, and more!  We made our budgeted amount of $2,500, so that's perfect.  Families that sold more than 5 items will get a VIP seat when Mr. Puppet comes to Edison in May.

Labels for Education - SEND YOURS IN!
Thank you to those that contributed Labels for Education (formerly Campbell's). We were able to purchase Tempra Paint and a dozen water color trays for use in our art classes. And we were also able to purchase 12 playground balls and 2 mesh bags. Labels for Education has discontinued their program, so if you have any foods in your pantry with the labels, please cut them out and send them in to PTO. They are giving us a few months to submit the last of our labels and place our final orders.

Marco's Nights
Edison's Monthly Marco's nights brings 15% on call-in/walk-in orders and 20% for online orders back in donations to the school! Don't forget - when you mention teacher's names when you call or online, your class gets credit.
