Giving Tuesday 2021: Meeting the Moment, Sustaining the Moment
2020 reminded us of the limitless nature our collective power while proving a mass conscious shift towards abolition and Black liberation and away from capitalist logic and white supremacy was possible. 2021 has continued that exponential growth, allowing us and others to tap into new found energy, resources, and attention on age-old problems with holistic, structural, and community-based solutions.
In 2020, we met the moment. In 2021, we sustained the moment.
This spring and summer we produced a half-hour documentary Seguimos Aquí with ALMA and CHM about LGBTQ+ Latinx Chicagoans navigating the pandemic, interpersonal struggles, and community triumphs. We continued abolitionist organizing and uplifted narratives with the #EraseTheDatabase and #StopShotSpotter campaigns. We reflected on the 2020 uprisings while connecting them back to past organizing with the upcoming #NoCopAcademy feature documentary. The Bourbon 'n BrownTown podcast partnered with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) for the Collective Freedom Project four-part series, among many other exciting projects, collaborations, and developments.
We make this work possible when community supports community. Consider making a monthly or one-time, tax-deductible donation to SoapBox and support our sustainability and growth. Together, let’s making “giving back” unnecessary by abolishing hierarchal structures of inequity and violence and create new interrelated ecosystems of care, community, and abundance (Photo by Thoughtpoet).
