Engineers Week Professional Development Event
Reserve Your Spot Today! This event is a strength-based team building workshop to help hone in and focus on your strengths. After you complete registration, you will receive the StrengthsFinder 2.0 e-book with an access code to complete the official online test to determine your top 5 strengths.
Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day? Chances are, you don't. All too often, our natural talents go untapped. From the cradle to the cubicle, we devote more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our strengths. In StrengthsFinder 2.0 Gallup unveiled the new and improved version of its popular assessment. Loaded with hundreds of strategies for applying your strengths, this Wall Street Journal, Business Week, and USA Today bestseller will change the way you look at yourself -- and the world around you -- forever.
In the workshop, we will go over more techniques and strategies to help develop your potential in your strength areas. The workshop will be led by JoDee Curtis, SHRM-SCP, CPA, founder of Purple Ink LLC and author of “JoyPowered: Intentionally Creating an Inspired Workspace.” She is a Gallup Certified Strengths coach and works with a wide variety of companies and organizations to assist with human resource business needs, providing leadership training, talent acquisition for leadership positions, and consulting for companies to enhance their culture.

Central Indiana MATHCOUNTS Competition The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is a national program that provides students the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers. Created in 1983, it is the longest-running MATHCOUNTS program and is open to all sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students.
Several volunteers are needed for the annual Central Indiana MathCounts competition. The majority of volunteers are needed from 9am until 12:30 pm for scoring all of the tests. A few volunteers are needed for proctoring the exam room and entering scores into the computer scoring system. We also need runners to help with getting tests delivered to volunteers and a couple volunteers for sorting exams. If you need to leave early, please let Kim know so she can place you in an appropriate volunteer slot to facilitate your schedule.
When the students complete the testing, they will have lunch and the the top students will compete in a head-to-head math competition. This is always fun to watch for anyone who can stay until around 2:30 pm.
Light snacks and lunch will be provided to all volunteers.
We are also looking for additional sponsors for the event. Please let Kim know if your company would like to help support this great program

Thank you for volunteering at the Girl Scouts Rube Golberg Event!
On Feb 4, 2017, 20 volunteers from SWE-CI worked with 38 Girl Scouts in the 2nd and 3rd grades to help them earn the Brownie Inventor Badge. The girls learned about what engineers do, including that Civil Engineers have saved more lives than doctors - What would we do without clean water? The Girl Scouts spent the morning doing some brainstorming activities before building Rube Goldberg Machines in teams. If you're not familiar with Rube Goldberg Machines, they perform a simple task in a very complicated way. The simple task the teams completed was ringing a bell! Check out this video on youtube for a great example of a Rube Goldberg Machine. Thank you Lynn Wrablik-Reilly for organizing the event!
