Dear friend,
We need your help.

This Monday the Government rejected a bill offering sanctuary to 3,000 child refugees currently in Europe. The bill had been put forward by Lord Alf Dubs who came to the UK on the kindertransport from Nazi Germany.

On its rejection Lord Dubs said the current Tory government would “have probably said no” to taking in children fleeing the Nazis. He called it “shameful” and “a sad moment for British politics”.
Last night the bill was back in the House of Lords where a revised amendment was voted in with an increased majority of 279 - 172. The major difference between the defeated Dubs Amendment and the new one is the removal of the commitment to take 3,000 children. The new amendment instead puts the decision on numbers in the hands of the government and local authorities.

The revised Dubs Amendment has now ‘ping ponged’ back to the House of Commons for the final time and will be voted on any time in the next few days.

This is where you come in. There is still a chance to convince MPs to support this motion but time is of the essence...
Please write, email, tweet your MP and ask them to show compassion for the children alone in Europe, having fled war and terror in search of safety. Remind them that Britain should not turn their backs on these children and urge them to be on the right side of history by voting in favour of the revised Dubs Amendment.
There are 95,000 unaccompanied minors registered in the EU. Europol have already stated that 10,000 are missing. Not helping these children leaves them vulnerable to sexual exploitation, trafficking and neglect in inhumane living conditions.
As Conservative MP Stephen Phillips said of these children in the House of Commons debate “Tonight they will sleep in fear, and tomorrow they will wake to the hopelessness to which their position exposes them. Today, in this House, we can do something. We cannot solve all their problems, remove all their troubles, or take from their consciousness the memory of the horrors that they have witnessed and endured, but we can do something”.—[Official Report, Commons, 25/4/16; col. 1212.]
