Hi Everyone:

Below are a few items I want to share.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Outdoor Water Usage Ban
The MA-DEP oversees the Town's permit to run our Water System, and the terms require us to do our part to conserve and protect the water supply during a drought. Therefore, we must impose a ban on outdoor water usage beginning immediately.
Residents on the Town's Water System are asked to comply with the following water conservation measures:
  • Limit your outdoor water usage to just one day per week and between 5:00 pm and 9:00 am. (If I plan to water on Monday night, I begin after 5:00 pm. If I plan to start on Tuesday morning at 6:00 am, I must finish before 9:00 am).
  • Regardless of the day you choose, the irrigation of lawns or gardens must be done by a handheld hose or watering can.
  • Refrain from washing vehicles, other than for safety reasons, or by a commercial car wash.
  • There is to be no washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways, or sidewalks.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection regulates the Town's water supply system. MassDEP requires that we issue water usage restriction due to the on-going drought. For more information about the drought and the State's actions, see the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force webpage.

Thank you.
Old Dalton Road, Skyline Trail, and the Next Road Project
Old Dalton Road
-- The massive open-culvert installation is complete, and the project is moving along nicely.  There is still lots to happen in the next several weeks, but the Warner Brothers crew are on schedule to have the project completed in just over one month.

Middlefield Road/Skyline Trail --  Our Mass DOT/Division One contact for this project has reported that the Middlefield Road project's engineering package is about 90% complete.  The completed documents are due in September, which is then followed by all the approval processes required, and the bid package will go out just after the first of January 2021.  Mass DOT will then select the contractor, and work will begin as soon as possible next spring.  Our Mass DOT/Division One contact has said we would get a schedule as soon as it is available, probably in April 2021, with a completion date the following fall.

The Schnopp Project -- As mentioned in last June's Annual Town Meeting Warrant and the corresponding Warrant Notes, the next road project on the horizon, we have labeled the "Schnopp Project."  This project will be to reconstruct both Frank and George Schnopp Roads, and the two-tenths of a mile of Old Winsor Road that leads into them from Dalton. We have hired Foresight Engineering to begin work on the preliminary plans and will be seeking grant funding to complete the project.  As we know from experience, a lot must be done before we can submit a "shovel-ready" proposal, but the work has already begun,  We will keep you informed as we proceed on this endeavor.
Please complete your US Census submission

Berkshire County and State Officials are urging all residents who have yet to complete their 2020 Census to please do so.
Currently, only 56.6% of our residents have done so.  This below our 2010 response rate of 64.3%. ( Please note: this percentage includes second homes, so second homeowners are encouraged to complete the census for their home address.)

The Federal government distributes approximately $2,500/person/year based on the census numbers.  Our legislative representation at the state and national levels also depends on these counts.  Our community will be living with this year's count for the next ten years.

To do so on-line, click US CENSUS.
Don't Get Complacent About COVID-19
The Mass Department of Public Health, our Police, Fireman's Association, Board of Health Members, and all healthcare providers do not want us to get complacent about COVID-19. We all need to continue to take steps to protect ourselves and each other from the spread of this deadly virus.
