LHA Security Camera Research Group
LHA is forming a committee to examine the possibility of installing street security cameras in our neighborhood. We invite neighbors with knowledge of the technical capabilities, cost and practicality of security camera systems to join. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to share your expertise.
AC Transit Service Changes
Beginning Sunday, March 26, AC Transit will roll out the next phase of AC Go, the most significant expansion of service in the agency’s history. AC Go puts more buses on the street, which means faster service and shorter wait times. Click here to learn more about the AC Go service improvements and see which routes are affected.
OPD Voluntary Camera Registry Program
Many Oaklanders have chosen to install camera systems to protect their homes and neighborhoods. If you have a surveillance system, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) hopes you will register it on their Security Camera Registry at www.oaklandnet.com/camera. In the event of a nearby crime, OPD will be able to directly contact registrants and ask them to check their video surveillance system. Video footage can help OPD solve crimes.
Auto Break-in / Crime Prevention Tips from OPD
OPD has seen an increase of auto burglaries occurring throughout the day and evening hours. OPD suggests when parking your vehicle on the street:
Never leave ANYTHING in public view.
Roll up and lock windows and doors.
Never leave keys in the ignition or in the car, even for a quick errand.
Use locking devices on steering wheel or brake pedal = proven deterrents.
Avoid parking in isolated or poorly lit areas.
Program your cell phone to report emergencies or crimes in progress (510) 777-3211 or call 911 from a land line. For property crimes that have already occurred, call the Oakland Police non-emergency number (510) 777-3333 or submit a Crime Report Form at www.oaklandpolice.com
