Prelate's Christmas Message
Առաջնորդ Սրբազան Հօր Ս. Ծննդեան Պատգամը

In his 2017 Christmas message, Archbishop Oshagan challenges us to think about the legacy of the infinite love our forefathers had for Christ and His commandments that they passed down to us.

His Eminence advises us:  The Feast of the Holy Nativity and Baptism is on January 6. Are we prepared to hear God’s testimony? Are we worthy of continuing our childhood, or are the problems of the world going to distance us from the grace that became the key to our nation’s salvation and the source of our creative abilities? God’s paternity takes on meaning and purpose when we accept others as our loved ones, and when we love the needy, the weak, and all those who suffer in the face of evil in the world. Let us go to them and say, You are our beloved brothers and sisters, and we come to visit you on the occasion of the Holy Nativity and Baptism because, “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was in prison and you came to me.” (Matthew 25:35-36)

It is that time of the year when we remember the orphans of Vanadzor Orphanage and collect scarves, mittens and gloves for them so that they stay warm throughout the winter season.
Please remember these orphans as you shop!
May God bless you richly and fill your hearts with joy as you share God's blessings with those in need.

The Epistle Reading

Hebrews 7:11-25

Pray for us; we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. I urge you all the more to do this, so that I may be restored to you very soon.
Now may the God of peace, who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, make you complete in everything good so that you may do his will, working among us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly. I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been set free; and if he comes in time, he will be with me when I see you. Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy send you greetings. Grace be with all of you.
The Gospel Reading

Luke 22:24-30

A dispute also arose among them, which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.  And Jesus said to them:
"The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you; rather let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. For which is the greater, one who sits at table, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at table? But I am among you as one who serves. "You are those who have continued with me in my trials; and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel”.

Requiem Service
Rebecca Nalbandian  Requested by Zaven Nalbandian Sr. & Nalbandian family

The Requiem Service is offered every Sunday.
On the five major feast days of Nativity, Pascha (Easter), Transfiguration, Assumption and Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the Requiem Service is offered on the following day, which is designated as "Remembrance of the Dead". This means that the Church will not offer Requiem Service on these feast Sundays.

Please call the Church Office (618-451-7884) for Requiem requests no later than 12:00 p.m. on Fridays. You may also email Requiem requests to Der Torkom Chorbajian at stgregorychurchgranitecity@gmail.com.
Prayer Request
Please submit any prayer requests to Der Hayr by 12:00 p.m. on Friday (stgregorychurchgranitecity@gmail.com).
Every Saturday: Great Vespers at 5:00 p.m. (Armenian & English).
After our Sunday service don't leave! Join us at our Community hall across the parking lot.

Please contact Takouhie Kakligian
(618) 978-2078
to make arrangements.
  "Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
"
Psalm 103:1

Pastor & Choir director invite all those who like to sing for the glory of the Lord.
You don't have to be a professional singer, or have special training in reading music notes. Your simple willingness to commit yourself to the choir and learn new Sharagans - Hymns are enough for our Church and for your spiritual growth!
Our Stewardship
Pastor & Board of Trustees have decided to publish the weekly income/expense figures of our Church, in an effort of sharing knowledge and awareness with our parishioners about how we use our financial resources. This is the fruit of the indirect conversation that we had with our parish through our church survey.

Sunday, December 25, 2016:
Total Income: Includes  candles, collection, prayers, poinsettias, dues, Anniversary, ILOF, Youghakeen, funeral fee and gift to Church: $ 3,294.00
Weekly Expense from 2016 approved budget: $ 2,351.00

We would like to talk about the importance of Stewardship. Stewardship is based on the spiritual principles of the Old Testament and the teachings of Jesus. It is a way of thanking God for all the blessings He has given us by returning him a portion of time, talent and treasure. Stewardship can change the spiritual lives of both individuals and the parish as a whole.
