Sandbag Filling Event: Friday 4/28 from 1-4 PM in the Wildcat Parking Lot

The Town of Alta is hosting a volunteer event to fill sandbags in preparation for spring runoff. The event will take place in the Wildcat Parking Lot tomorrow, April 28th, from 1-4 PM. Please bring gloves, sturdy shoes, and clothes you can get dirty. We will offer light snacks, and a few shovels will be available, but please bring a shovel if you can.

We expect to build a stockpile of sandbags for deployment as necessary in the event that flooding is occuring or imminent at residential and commercial properties in Alta. Residents and property owners at addresses with a known history of flooding or inundation during spring runoff can take up to 25 filled sandbags preemptively. If flooding becomes active or imminent, more sandbags will be available on a first-come first-serve basis as supplies last.

Salt Lake County has a large stockpile of filled sandbags available at the Public Works Sandbag Shed at 604 West 6960 South in Midvale. Salt Lake County provides 25 sandbags per vehicle, per day at this location. For more questions about sandbags, contact Chris Cawley at ccawley@townofalta.com.
