March 2021

Dear ETP4HPC Members and Partners,

I am writing this message as the Chairman of the “old” ETP4HPC Steering Board. A new Steering Board was elected by our General Assembly on 4 March, and its composition reflects the direction of our Association - the two new members of the Board, Leonardo and Thales, are users of HPC as well as developers of HPC Technology. I trust that the new Board will continue to define the priorities of our activities meeting the expectation of our Members.

I would like to thank all Members for the trust they have put in us, the Steering Board, the Office and my humble person, during the last term of the Steering Board and in particular on the occasion of the last General Assembly and the Steering Board elections. I think the Office did a tremendous job delivering a well-run event and smooth voting.

On the other hand, we as the voice of the European HPC industry must not let the trust other stakeholders have put in us depreciate. We should continue our engagement in EuroHPC into its second phase as it has taken a lot of effort to earn the reputation we have within the European IT ecosystem. Part of this process is negotiating and then fulfilling our obligations as the private partners of EuroHPC and the new Steering Board will tackle this as one of its first tasks.

I also invite all Members to join the process of writing our next Strategic Research Agenda - announcements of the first kick-off meetings have already been shared. The SRA is our main deliverable, this is where we express ourselves as ‘think tank’, and this is where our Members can prioritise their expertise, provided it meets the strategic goals of European HPC. I look forward to reading the chapters of all SRA working groups.

Thank you again for your trust to date and please keep safe.

Jean-Pierre Panziera
ETP4HPC Chairman
