Introducing Our Head Student Leaders

Head Boy - Oliver Duke
Oliver has been at HHS for the past 4 years. He plays badminton, has an interest in magic and is known for his interest in fashion. As his last year of high school approached Oliver saw becoming Head Boy as a way to make an impact on the school, to make a difference. This year Oliver plans to bring more of an understanding of the core values of HHS. He believes that it is easy to forget that these core values were voted on by the school to represent what HHS should stand for and Oliver would like to remind the student body of this. Oliver believes the culture at HHS is much more "chillaxed" than other schools and gives you every opportunity to express every aspect of yourself.

Head Girl - Shivali Harman
Throughout her time at school Shivali has been interested in dance. In high school she has been involved with different groups that enable her to be involved with the wider school community. Shivali stood for election because she wanted to help to continue to grow an environment where students are involved and feel comfortable pushing their own boundaries, because she believes that giving things a go is key to discovering who you are as well as making important connections with people. As Head Students both Shivali and Oliver plan this year to make sure student involvement is at a high, and that they help to continue to ensure that everyone feels safe, comfortable and included. Shivali likes the inclusive and friendly culture of HHS and thinks that it is great to be part of a school where individuality is encouraged, diversity is everywhere and to have support systems in place to make sure that all students have access to a fuller, richer experience.

St. Patrick's Day Celebrations
Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St Patrick’s Day was celebrated today at Hillcrest High School. A
“Danny Boy” was performed by the SCAT choir during the morning staff briefing and was followed by greetings in Irish and an explanation about the origins of St Patrick’s Day from Deputy Principal, Rónán Bass.

Other events during the day included an Irish dancing workshop, 4-leaved clover hunt, best “wearing of the green” by staff and students, and a St. Patrick’s Day photo booth.
Russell McVeagh Debating Competition
The Waikato/BOP Russell McVeagh competition took place on Saturday 11 March at the University of Waikato. HHHS consisted of Nisha Novell, Jonah Franke-Bowell and Gabriel Pan. Scott Faville was the reserve. The team won first their prepared debate against Tauranga Girls College...read more
1st XI Cricket
Well done to Hillcrest High 1st XI cricket team. Having won all their games this term, they are now through to the semi-finals against Hamilton Boys High school this Saturday. The team also won both their Gillette Cup T20 qualifying games against Morrinsville College and St Johns College so are through to the next round against Counties Manukau next Monday.

Stand out players this term have been William Kingsbury and Luke Kennedy who have made outstanding contributions with the bat. Luke has been equally impressive with the ball, and currently leads the secondary schools Division 1 competition for both batting and bowling. Michael Lanting also deserves special mention for his economical bowling and taking of key wickets.

Good luck for you semi-final this Saturday and Gillette Cup game on Monday.
Supporting Ka'iulani

As you may be aware, Hillcrest High School teacher Moana Forbes’ daughter Ka’iulani is currently battling a serious illness. As a community we wish to support Moana, her husband Manihera and their whānau, in their fundraising efforts so that Ka’iulani can access the medical treatment and support she needs and deserves. You can show your support through donating via the givealittle page which has been set up and being supported by Liam Messam.

Alternatively if you feel that you would like to take a more active role in supporting the Forbes whānau, you could get involved in the “12 Hour Ride for Ka’iulani” which is taking place at Les Mills on Saturday, 22nd April or you could sponsor teachers from Hillcrest High School who will be taking part in the 12 Hour Ride challenge!
