"Give thanks to the Lord because he is good,
because his faithful love lasts forever."
(Psalm 118:1)

Dear <<First Name>>,

Greetings to you on this Good Friday. We are moving from "Lent in the living room" to a "scattered Easter" and I can feel the long weeks since we've been together in my bones. I wish that we were sharing in festivities together in a crowded sanctuary with smiles and hugs as we celebrate the resurrection. But don't be fooled! New life is arriving on Sunday morning whether we're at 79A Tottenham Court Road or not!

Love and new life are realised when we start sharing it. I'm reminded that the same Spirit of God who hovered over the waters at creation and who raised up Christ from the grave is the Spirit that empowers you and me. And she isn't some serious and somber Spirit that we only find in dusty books and towering cathedrals. No, the Spirit of God is the Spirit of life itself!

So, even though it's still Good Friday, I hope that you will join me in starting to celebrate the blossoming of new life today. Indulge in living life today. Whether you are feasting with friends in a garden, enjoying some a lot of rich chocolate, or simply taking a day away from the incessant demands of your labour; indulge in the simple gifts of life today. Take the sanctuary and your worship outside with you! Enjoy the gifts of God's Spirit this Easter! And then give love and life away to those around you!

And when we gather together again, we know that this scattered Easter will bring us closer because we share the Spirit of New Life together!

Rest assured that you are held in the grace of God and in my prayers,
Pastor Jared

Daily Prayer for Good Friday

Betrayed! The ‘Jerusalem one’,

innocent of all charges,

and Judas is our scapegoat.

Forgive us, Lord,

for with Peter, we deny

and with Judas we betray.

Deep fear compromises love,

and we separate ourselves

in unholy disjunction

from truth.

And the silence of shame

overwhelms us.

And the sorrow of tainted silver marks us.

Forgive us, Lord,

that privileged though we are

to know the drama’s full tale,

we sell faith cheaply,

and seek smooth phrases of excuse.

– Stephen Brown, in Let Justice Roll Down, Geoffrey Duncan, ed.
