Dear <<First Name>>,
It’s hard for me to make the shift from Thanksgiving to Christmas festivities. Sometimes, as the diary fills up with Christmas parties and family visits and all the demands of the season, it’s hard for me to see beyond to the 25th of December and the importance of a God who would become human in a newborn infant and share our earthly experiences.
It seems the same around AIC, as so much of our focus is on celebrating Thanksgiving as a congregation and with our American friends living around us. I’m sure that it can feel the same way for you.
Thankfully, we have the season of Advent to help us wait and prepare for Christmas. We spend some time building the anticipation for Christ to arrive among us as the Light of the world and to eagerly await the redemption of our world and our own selves.
This year, our Advent theme is a simple one: Singing Songs of Advent. Our scriptures in worship will be four songs that are sung in the opening chapters of Luke’s Gospel, and as usual we will look forward to the beautiful music from our choir and musicians under Scott’s leadership.
I hope you’ll join us as often as you are able as we take the time to let the music of Advent carry us into the presence of God, and as we learn to sing the tune of God’s redemption and love.
