A Thanksgiving Prayer

Where two or three are gathered, Jesus has promised to be present with us.
Here we are. So here Christ is at this table with us!
Beautiful and holy things happen when family and friends gather around a table, and when hospitality is shared with others. Joy and laughter and love will triumph at this table, and in God’s coming Kingdom. So, before we eat together, let us pray with gratitude on this Thanksgiving Day:
O God, giver of all every good and perfect gift, we gather because you provide for us. At your voice, the earth grows and bears fruit, and you have called it good. In your love, you provide both manna and quail as you free us from what binds and oppresses us. Even now, you set the heavenly banquet table around which all will gather. You provide still, and we give you thanks.
Jesus, the Bread of Heaven, our Living Water, your grace sustains us. Like a mother nursing her beloved child, you feed us with your body and blood. Your generous love fills our empty places so that we can give your love to the empty places in this world. You provide still, and we give you thanks.
Holy Spirit, you hold us in communion. You dwell within us, and make us like a tree replanted by streams of water, so that we may bear fruit at just the right time. You bring us together across time and distance as one Body in Christ. You provide still, and we give you thanks.
With thankful hearts, we share this feast to celebrate your generosity toward us. May we be truly grateful and be filled with love today, so that we may fill the world with love and thanksgiving. Amen.
