Dear <<First Name>>,
Yesterday, we opened the doors of our sanctuary for the first time in nearly six months. Fifteen people gathered to worship, following all the best practices for social distancing and indoor gatherings. It felt strange and different in many ways, but familiar in others. We knew God was in our midst and left blessed by the experience.
Even as we gathered there, we prayed with and for the majority of our community that still participates in the services online via YouTube. I pray that the presence of these two gatherings—in person and online—will give hope and sustenance to one another as we keep learning how to be the church in this coronavirus era.
If you tuned in to yesterday’s worship, you heard me preach about the folly of making plans right now, with everything pencilled in except for the abiding presence of God. In that tentative but hopeful spirit, we have planned our in-person gatherings for the remainder of September. We plan to proceed, but all things will be subject to change as restrictions may come and go.
The main purpose of this email is to share with you the links to the pre-registration forms for the next three Sundays, as many of you have expressed a desire to book your pew on a particular date in the coming weeks. Now that we have navigated the first week, we are ready to open the bookings for future weeks. Those links are below.
We recognise that the online gatherings will likely remain the primary worship experience for many of you. We have taken steps to sustain our YouTube worship experience, with attention and care you have come to expect, for a long time to come. Do not be anxious that you will lose that option as we return to in-person worship as well.
This Sunday, we will be offering communion at our in-person service. For those of you participating online, we will have a Zoom communion experience during Bible Study.
Beyond Sunday worship, I hope you engage with the other church programs launching this autumn. You can find midweek Pause for Prayer videos on YouTube on Wednesdays. Via Zoom, you can attend Bible Study on Sundays and the Conversation on Becoming Antiracist on Mondays. Children’s Sunday School has relaunched online, and the Youth Group will be meeting outdoors and via Zoom. You can find details for all these activities here.
As always, please help us to pray for one another. Be in touch with Jared, Jonathan or with me to let us know if you have joys or concerns for us to offer in prayer.
