Dear <<First Name>>,

The last two years have been difficult, without a doubt, for everyone. The COVID anxiety, separation and disruption has impacted our lives far longer than anyone anticipated.

Many of us are feeling depleted. Our reserves of energy, patience, time and emotional resilience have been used up over these long months. For some, money, relationships and other resources may also be running low. We feel like we don't have anything left.

This week, we will hear the story of Jesus attending a wedding at Cana, where the hosts are running low on wine. Usually, I approach this is a fun and festive story, where Jesus keeps the party going by turning water into wine. This time around, I think many of us will find it far easier to relate to the empty jugs than the overflowing spirits.

I think that means that we're right where we need to be to hear and understand the gift of this story, the miracle of God's abundance and Christ's provision, in a new and deeper way.

Join us onsite or online, and perhaps you won't depart from worship quite so empty anymore.

P.S. Scott and the choir have some special music planned in memory of Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Attend Onsite – COVID Info

We encourage each of you to consider your own personal risk in deciding to come to worship, especially in light of the increased transmission of the Omicron variant.

We require:
  • Everyone to wear a face covering at all times indoors.
  • Everyone to use hand sanitizer upon arrival.
  • Anyone with COVID symptoms to stay home.
We strongly encourage:
  • Everyone to take a home lateral flow test (free from the NHS) prior to coming to worship. (Our ministry team already does this.)
  • Everyone to get their vaccines and boosters as soon as possible.
  • Everyone to avoid socializing indoors, chatting instead outside before and after the worship service.
Please note: the sanctuary will not open until 15 minutes prior to the start of the service, to allow ventilation between choir rehearsal and worship.
Attend Online

Livestreaming is now available on Sunday mornings at 11:00 GMT on our YouTube channel. A link will also be posted to our Facebook page.
Post-Worship Videos continue on YouTube, usually posted on Monday afternoon.

This is our current plan through January 15, though we will adjust sooner if restrictions are imposed.

Inclusion at AIC

At our autumn AGM, the Church Council prompted us to begin conversations about diversity & inclusion, specifically about the topic of equal marriage. We are already a welcoming and hospitable church, and it seemed that registering as an equal marriage congregation could be an actionable step to grow in this area.

If you missed opportunities to join the conversation in the fall through Bible study, a conversation forum, or the “Becoming Antiracist, Being Inclusive” book group, let us know and watch for ways to engage soon.

Please contact Elodie Lasserre, Jared Jaggers, or Jonathan Miller if you have questions or want to have a chat about the conversations from the autumn.
Giving: Your generosity matters more than ever.

This year remains difficult in many ways, and we ask you, if you are able, to consider making a gift to keep our ministries thriving.

You may give via bank transfer with the following information:

Plans for Children & Youth

With the new year, we are moving on to new things for our children and youth! However, we are starting a little more slowly than I initially imagined because of the increased Omicron transmission in London at the moment.

In the autumn, we experimented with a PrayGround space in the sanctuary and twice-monthly gatherings with traditional lessons and games. This was the right choice for the moment, but I think that we can evolve to find ministries better suited to our children and family schedules. I ask for your continued patience as this develops, but here are a few updates.

  • The crèche is open again after allowing some time away for our staff to celebrate Christmas with their families. Babies aged 0-3 are welcome in our crèche or to remain with parents in the sanctuary.
  • Our children ages 4+ are welcome as part of our worshiping community and there are children's bulletins and crayons available in the vestibule. For the time being, the PrayGround is not available.
  • Our youth will gather again by Zoom to reconnect and study together, and I hope we will resume some outings and service opportunities very soon. Details coming soon to parents' email inboxes.

We hope to see you and your children soon!
