Dear <<First Name>>,

Lent is always associated with sin and repentance, our need to confess our sins to God. Like the image above of the broken bouncy balls, we sometimes feel wrecked beyond repair, like we will never be free for joy and delight again.

Lent, the church, and even Jesus, don't just remind us about sin and brokenness in order to make us feel guilty. The whole point is to prepare us for Easter--to be reminded that God can make all things new, and even bring life out of death.

This second week of Lent, do not hesitate to name what is broken within you and within our world. Lift your hearts to God, and ask for healing, forgiveness and hope. God's grace will not deny you.

Pastor Jennifer

Worship Online

Sunday Worship for 28 February will premiere on YouTube and Facebook at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, and be available anytime after. Pastor Jennifer will talk about brokenness and healing, and Joanna Davies will bring our music.

Last Sunday's service began our Lenten series, with Pastor Jennifer's reflections on God's love amidst life's fragility and mortality (all too present this year), and powerful music from Siobhain Gibson and Liam Dunachie.
Lent in the Living Room
This Lent, although we will not be gathering in person, your ministry team invites you to a season of prayer, worship, and spiritual growth. Here are a few tools to guide you through Lent.

Daily Prayers for Lent
  • You can find this week's daily prayers here. New prayers will be sent weekly on Tuesdays by email.
  • You can also receive the prayer daily via WhatsApp. This is an option that requires you to opt-in by adding Pastor Jared as a contact in your mobile device and sending him a WhatsApp message: Jared Jaggers, +44 75656 87333. (Your details will not be shared or visible to anyone else receiving the message, and replies will only go directly to Jared.)

Create a Lenten Altar
Objects with a Spiritual Focus for Each Week

We have sent the objects below to the children and youth of AIC. Join in by gathering these items by Ash Wednesday and the weekly email will offer some explanation to focus your prayers and reflections for the week.
  • Dirt or ashes – a tablespoon or two will do, in a small dish or somewhere on your "altar."
  • Something broken – our children will receive a cracked/broken bouncy ball, but you can use anything that's broken beyond repair.
  • Tea bag – you may already have this one on hand! Simply add one bag to your altar.
  • Stone – a small stone for each member of your household; make sure it will fit in your hand and in a pocket.
  • Chocolates – a piece of chocolate for each member of your household; fair trade if at all possible.
Choose a Traditional Lenten Fast and Focus on Serving Others
  • Follow this "40 Acts" calendar with a simple action to show love toward someone else that day. (It has been created for children, but is suitable for children of all ages!)
  • Sign up for International Justice Mission's “Slave Free Lent” – - IJM will send you text messages with ideas for how take action against human trafficking. Each week of Lent it will challenge you to give up something for that week that often involves labour of enslaved people.
