THIS WEEK AT AIC
View this email in your browser
Dear <<First Name>>,

Pictured above, you'll see our Lent in the Living Room object of the week: a chocolate bar!

That doesn't sound very Lenten, does it? What happened to self-denial, sin, repentance?

This 5th Sunday of Lent is known as Laetere Sunday, a mini-celebration in the middle of the austerity of Lent. It reminds us that even when times are difficult, God is still good.

This week in worship, we will hear the story of the woman with the alabaster jar, who gave an abundant, indulgent gift to Jesus by anointing him. We'll hear from three members of AIC about stories of gifts they have received, and reflect together on the goodness, grace and gifts of God--and how we can share those gifts with others.

Join us on YouTube, and then for the Congregational Meeting to follow.

Faithfully,
Pastor Jennifer

Congregational Meeting
Sunday 21 March, 11:45 a.m. via Zoom

At this meeting, we will receive the 2020 Annual Report, look over a draft budget for 2021, and hear from the Nominating Committee about new leaders and Council members.

Our bylaws require an in-person meeting for formal decision-making, but the Council intends to heed the informal direction of this gathering and ratify decisions later at an official congregational meeting when it is safe to gather a quorum. That meeting will be duly announced and publicized when it is scheduled.

Reports and agenda will be sent out tomorrow, Friday, 19 March, and we encourage all members to plan to attend. Non-members are also welcome, as it is an open meeting.

WORSHIP
Worship Online

Sunday Worship for 14 March will premiere on YouTube and Facebook at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, and be available anytime after. Our ministry team will be joined by Stephen Howard, Sedinam Nartey and Tangy Morgan to share reflections on the gifts of God, and Jonathan Eyers will bring our music.

Last Sunday's service below continued our Lenten series, with Pastor Jennifer's reflections on "Presence," and music from Nick Allen and Liam Dunachie.
Palm Sunday Help Needed!

We'd like to create a "palm parade" for our online worship video for Palm Sunday. Can you send a short video (5-7 seconds) or photo of yourself and/or members of your household simply waving at the camera? It will give us all a chance to wave to one another, see some beloved faces, and spread some Palm Sunday joy. Send your videos to Jared (jared@amchurch.co.uk) by noon on Friday, March 26.
Lent in the Living Room

This Lent, although we will not be gathering in person, your ministry team invites you to a season of prayer, worship, and spiritual growth. Here are a few tools to guide you through Lent.

Holy Week Plans
  • Maundy Thursday, April 1: Zoom service with Communion, 6:30 p.m.
  • Good Friday, April 2: short video shared on YouTube
  • Easter, April 4: more info next week, with plans to embrace resurrection love right where you are

Daily Prayers for Lent
  • You can find this week's daily prayers here. New prayers will be sent weekly on Tuesdays by email.
  • You can also receive the prayer daily via WhatsApp. This is an option that requires you to opt-in by adding Pastor Jared as a contact in your mobile device and sending him a WhatsApp message: Jared Jaggers, +44 75656 87333. (Your details will not be shared or visible to anyone else receiving the message, and replies will only go directly to Jared.)

Choose a Traditional Lenten Fast and Focus on Serving Others
  • Follow this "40 Acts" calendar with a simple action to show love toward someone else that day. (It has been created for children, but is suitable for children of all ages!)
  • Sign up for International Justice Mission's “Slave Free Lent” – https://www.ijmuk.org/slavefreelent - IJM will send you text messages with ideas for how take action against human trafficking. Each week of Lent it will challenge you to give up something for that week that often involves labour of enslaved people.
Sunday Evening Zoom Worship

This informal, 45-minute service focuses on connection, community and communion. We will reflect and pray together on a scripture, then share communion. Bring wine, juice or water, and bread or cracker for communion.
