Dear <<First Name>>,

It doesn't quite feel like Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter are upon us. School holidays are just more days at home. There are no new dresses or special events, and maybe even no chocolate eggs this year.

And yet, the story of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection is more real that ever. When we feel powerless and fearful, Jesus' journey to the cross reminds us we are not alone in our suffering. When we feel the weight of mortality and fragility of human life, Jesus' death reminds us God goes with us even there. When we feel despair, Jesus' resurrection gives us hope in the promise of eternal life.

We need to gather around this story right now, so I hope you will join us. We can only BE THE CHURCH if you participate.

  • Send us a selfie of yourself waving for our "palm parade."
  • Zoom in for Friday Fellowship, or Sunday Bible Study, or Maundy Thursday.
  • Join with others to talk and pray, including a conversation with me about how to discuss death and dying with your loved ones.
  • Gather with us through YouTube or Facebook for worship, children's messages and Pause for Prayer moments.
Together, we will hear the good news of the Gospel this Holy Week.

Pastor Jennifer

P.S. If you need a moment of joy in God's presence right now, scroll all the way to the bottom and watch Jared's children's message for the week. It's well worth three minutes of your time!
Help needed! Join our Palm Parade!

Can you take a selfie giving a wave, from wherever in the world you are? We will create a slideshow for our worship video on YouTube featuring "waving palms." See our ministry team's photos below. It will only work if we get plenty of participants, so we need you!

It will be good to see everyone's faces, and to share this act of praise at the start of Holy Week. Everyone can participate, whether near or far. Send photos to or via text or WhatsApp, +44 7565 687333. All photos must be received by noon on Saturday, April 4.

Palm Sunday Worship -- April 5

Sunday worship will be posted on our YouTube and Facebook pages at 11:00 a.m. BST, but it will be available to watch anytime after.

This 30-40 minute service will include the Palm Parade, music from pianist Liam Dunachie and soloist Siobhain Gibson, a message from Pastor Jennifer, scripture readings and prayers by members of the AIC community and ministry team. Find time and space to worship in your home, with your AIC community.

Maundy Thursday -- April 9
Join us live at 19:00 for a reflection on the night Jesus was betrayed and "communion" via Zoom. This brief, 30-40 minute gathering will include reading scripture and a brief reflection on communion, but more importantly will focus on the gathering of friends in remembrance of Jesus Christ. Please come with bread or something bread-like (cookies, crackers, anything will do) to break and some wine or juice (or a substitute you have on hand).

How To Talk To Loved Ones about Death and Dying
Monday, April 6, 19:00 via Zoom

The COVID-19 crisis has many of us concerned not just about ourselves, but about parents and extended family members. Do you feel unprepared to have difficult conversations about legal preparation, financial matters, end-of-life choices, memorial wishes or funeral planning? Do you wonder where to start, or what topics you should address? Are you just plain terrified of this conversation?

Pastor Jennifer has years of experience helping families navigate these difficult conversations, and she will be hosting a Zoom conversation on Monday to share some thoughts, hear your questions and concerns, and offer practical and spiritual advice to help you gently undertake these important conversations with peace and faith. She will be joined by a member of AIC with legal background who currently serves as a Citizens Advice volunteer.

Soup Kitchen

The Soup Kitchen remains open as an essential service, serving more people than ever, up to 150 a day. They offer only takeaway and have special measures in place for social distancing. Please pray for the staff and their strength in this long and exhausting journey, and especially for the guests who have nowhere else to turn for support.

Cold Weather Shelter

The Cold Weather Shelter season wrapped up with the remaining six guests getting into hotel accommodation last Sunday. Under the leadership of Jonathan Miller, AIC hosted 23 nights of shelter this season--more than double than ever before. Pray that our guests would have patience during lockdown, and find their way to more permanent housing soon after.

Support for Vulnerable People

Currently, we do not know of any needs within the AIC community. However, that could change at any time. If you are not considered vulnerable, are able to travel without using public transit, and would be willing to help someone who might need delivery of groceries, medicine or other items, please contact

Giving: Your generosity matters more than ever.

We know that many people are facing challenging financial circumstances. AIC is in a solid position to weather the loss of Latchcourt income, but we will be relying more than usual on gifts from the congregation to keep our ministries going, our staff supported and our income flowing. If you are in a position to do so, we would ask you to consider making a special gift to support the church at this time, or to pay your 2020 pledge now, rather than across the course of the year.

You may give via bank transfer with the following information:
Beneficiary: The American Church in London
Sort Code: 40-05-16
Account Number: 81651498
Children's Message with Pastor Jared, April 1, 2020
Youth Group
This Sunday at 13:00, our youth will gather for their first Zoom group! We will have an indoor scavenger hunt and play some games at a distance, and we will have some conversation about God and human connection in the midst of crisis. Anyone ages 11-17 is welcome, so extend the invitation to youth near and far!
E-mail to receive the Zoom link.
A note on technology:

Zoom is an online platform to host video chat. It is free to use, but may require you to download an app to your phone, tablet or laptop.

Facebook will also host all our videos, including worship, Pause for Prayer and children’s messages. You do not need to have a Facebook account to view them, only to comment or engage.

AIC now has a YouTube channel. Subscribe or visit anytime for the latest worship services, pause for prayer moments, children’s messages and more.
