May: W.O.R.K National Ideas Gathering, Malcolm's School Educators Event, Welcome Jan, Bloodhound LSR
Various DYW groups were brought together by Young Scot in Stirling for the National Ideas Gathering, the aim of which was for young people to communicate with the DYW regional groups and try to work together to improve the service we provide for young people. Presentations were made and focus groups were formed which gave birth to many interesting ideas in key areas like social media and improving links between ourselves and schools!

The Malcolm's School Educator Event was a chance for school teachers and Skills Development Scotland staff based in the West of Scotland to get a tour of Malcolm's working environment and learn about the opportunities on offer to young people and the skills and qualities they look for when hiring new staff.

The DYW West team undertook Bloodhound Rocketeer training in May (yes we're officially "Rocketeers" now). For those not in the know, Bloodhound is the name of the car that's trying to break the Land Speed Record (Driver Andy Green has held the record since 1983 and intends to break it again), so what does this have to do with DYW West? Well, as an advocate of STEM subjects, we can now deliver workshops with school pupils where they design and race rocket-powered cars, seeing which one can go faster taking into consideration the weight and aerodynamics of their car. West College Scotland and DYW West carried out this years Inverclyde Bloodhound Heat, where Notre Dame High School, St. Stephen's High School, Inverclyde Academy and St. Columba's High School all attended. For more videos and pictures of what pupils can expect, see our Instagram Stories!

The Hospitality Takeover returned for 2019 across all 3 West College Scotland campuses in our 4 local authorities and proved to be a great success! The driving force behind the Hospitality Takeover is to spark an interest in young people about the hospitality industry and make them aware of various career journeys they could go on. To do this, we, in partnership with the college, set up a number of activities across 3 days which included: taste testing, languages sessions, chocolate piping and designing gingerbread men and much more! Click here for a gallery of images of all 3 days!

DYW West supported West College Scotland in communicating the results of their first ever West of Scotland Skills Survey by organising events with all the 4 Chambers of Commerce in our region. The results highlighted where employers could take steps to improve the development of their workforce and bridge the skills gap. .
