November 2019 Update

Your monthly update from the DYW West team.

We'd like to thank all of the employers and attendees across both days of STEM West this year, we wouldn't have been able to do it without you! Hundreds of pupils attended from over 20 schools and were met with excellent activities from employers like Arnold Clark and their touring apprenticeship van! We'd also like to extend our thanks to Jamie Hepburn MSP for attending and getting involved with the young people and employers in the world of STEM!

See a range of photos from both days on our Facebook Page!

On November 15th, DYW West were in attendance at Renfrewshire Chamber's biggest night of the year, The ROCCO Awards! With great food and great company, not to mention a great host in Fred Macaulay, we had a great time! We were delighted to be sponsoring the Developing the Young Workforce Award for which Morrison Construction, City Gate Construction and British Airways were nominated. They were all worthy nominees so congratulations to all of them especially City Gate Construction, the eventual winners!

You can see a photo gallery from the awards here.

We're excited to be supporting the FIRST LEGO League again this year, we can't wait to see the creativity coming from young people, they never cease to amaze us! Every year, FIRST LEGO League releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Past Challenges have been based on topics such as nanotechnology, climate, quality of life for the handicapped population, and transportation. Keep across our social channels to see all the goings-on on Monday 2nd December!
Inverclyde Chamber: A Look Into... Greenock Morton Football Club
Thanks to Greenock Morton Football Club and Inverclyde Chamber for hosting a great networking event this month. Greenock Morton's Chief Executive Dave Mackinnon, Morton in the Community's Brian McLaughlin and Morton Club Together's Graham McLennan gave great insight to the club and what a football club can do for a local community.
You can find more "A Look Into..." events here!
Renfrewshire Chamber: November Networking Lunch
Our Director, Bob Davidson, recently spoke at a Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce networking event at David Lloyd Glasgow Renfrew about all things DYW West and the work we're doing to improve the relationships between business and education. He talked about the many different ways, including apprenticeships and traineeships, in which the DYW programme aims to help grow and champion young people in the business world.
