Babcock International Woman's Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Babcock at Clyde partnered with DYW West to welcome 6 female students from two local high schools to HMNB Clyde to provide an insight into the opportunities available as a female working within the STEM industry. The visit included a tour of the site and facilities, and career talks from women in Babcock, the MOD and Royal Navy, who discussed their career experiences and provided advice to young people starting out in their career journey. We hope the visit encouraged the students to pursue a career within the STEM industry.

Thanks to Babcock at Clyde for engaging with DYW West and hosting our local young people from Vale of Leven Academy and Our Lady and Saint Patrick’s High School. Our joint partnership’s aim of the day was to inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM related industries. The site tour, demonstrations and inspirational talks from successful women within STEM was extremely beneficial to the pupils, who are now expressing an interest within this area, with some now applying for apprenticeships at Babcock.

Taylor Wimpey International Woman's Day
DYW West were invited to attend an event for International Woman's Day 2022 by Taylor Wimpey, hosted by Shoosmiths.

We were able to hear from a number of great speakers who discussed their experiences in helping to #BreakTheBias
This included a virtual presentation by Nicky Moffat CBE who discussed her experience as the highest ranked woman in the British Armed Forces, as well as the practical actions that helped her and her team to thrive.

Thank you to Taylor Wimpey for inviting us along to this great event and to Shoosmiths for hosting.
MCR Pathways

Could you #ShareAnHour a week to mentor a young person and support them to find and grow their talents?
Scottish mentoring charity MCR Pathways are looking for mentors across Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire. At MCR Pathways, we believe that a young person's future should be determined by their talents and never their circumstances. Our award-winning programme carefully matches young people with a mentor to meet for just one hour a week, in school. This one to one relationship makes a profound impact on young people's confidence and future, as well as being beneficial for employees and businesses supporting mentoring.
All steps to becoming a mentor can be done online and full training is provided. No qualifications are needed, just the desire to make a difference.

For more information, please visit: MCR Pathways or email with any questions.

Babcock STEM Games

Babcock International Group held "Babcock STEM Games" for S3 & S4 pupils at Vale of Leven Academy, Clydebank High School, St Peter the Apostle and St Stephens High School. This was a full day of interactive events, with approximately 200 pupils talking part, hoping to inspire the next generation of young people to consider a career in STEM.

The games involved 50 pupils from each school, in teams of five, competing against each other and other schools from West Dunbartonshire, Inverclyde and Argyll and Bute.

The event lasted the full day and consisted of six educational and fun activities, ranging from constructing towers out of spaghetti and a STEM quiz, to planning maintenance periods. All materials were provided by Babcock, and the activities were facilitated and scored by Babcock employees, with four employees overseeing the event at each school.

We would like to thank Babcock for involving our schools in this great event.

Reminder to our E-News readers that we post lots of apprenticeship opportunities across our social media channels. So please make sure you follow us, our links are at the bottom of this newsletter.
