#B2BPAISLEY 2018

On 10th May, our team had the pleasure of exhibiting at the #B2BPaisley event held by Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce. The event, held at the Lagoon Centre in Paisley, was a great opportunity to network with local organisations and promote our work to more than 50 exhibitors.

DYW WEST BLOODHOUND CHALLENGE 

This month we have held various Bloodhound heats in King's Oak Primary, East Renfrewshire, Mary Russell High School, John Paul Academy and West Dunbartonshire.

Well done to all those who have already taken place! The fastest time so far has been an impressive 50mph. Good luck to the students who will take part in the upcoming Inverclyde and Renfrewshire heats!

Winning teams will also get the chance to compete in this years Scottish Finals being held at Big Bang Perth on Tuesday 12th June.

FOUNDATION APPRENTICESHIPS - CAN YOU OFFER A WORK PLACEMENT?
Foundation Apprenticeships are the same level as a Higher and start in school at S5, where pupils attend college. In S6 they go into industry for an extended work placement from approx. Sep-May and we’re seeking employers to offer placements in the areas of Civil Engineering and IT (software development, cyber security, websites). Please get in touch if this is something your organisation can support?
EAST RENFREWSHIRE JOB CLUB
S4 Pupils from Barrhead High School, Woodfarm High School, Williamwood High School, Mearns Castle and Eastwood High School have just completed their 3rd and final Job Club - excellent mock interviews and final presentations from each group!
KING'S OAK EMPLOYABILITY CHALLENGE
On 14th and 15th May, Claire our Graduate Digital Marketing Intern and Emily our Modern Apprentice went to King's Oak Primary School to tell the Primary 7's all about Modern Apprenticeships. They also learned about the various skills and qualities that are needed for different jobs. The P7s also had a great opportunity to have their say on what #educationshouldbe in the future - as part of our Year of Young People 2018 campaign.

Thank you for inviting us along for a great two days and well done to the two teams who won our Modern Apprentice Quiz! 
SPECTRUM EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP RECRUITMENT DRIVE

A huge thank you to Paul and Marissa from Spectrum for coming along to West College Scotland to recruit for and talk about the European Championships and other events being held in and around Glasgow this year. 

PAISLEY GRAMMAR SCHOOL TALK
During May, our Programme Director, Bob Davidson, visited Paisley Grammar High School to give talks on 1) the business landscape in and around Paisley to the S2 year group and 2) a talk to S3 wider achievement class about entrepreneurship and being your own boss.
MODERN APPRENTICESHIP BLOG

UWS CELEBRATING STUDENTS EVENT

Bob, our Programme Director, was invited to give the key note address at the recent annual UWS Celebrating Student Success event at their Paisley Campus. Bob who graduated from the University back in 1990 focused his talk on employability and the skills employers look for in graduates and how to evidence them.

INVEST JOBS FAIR PAISLEY
On 31st May, our team were exhibiting at Invest in Renfrewshire's Job Fair held in Paisley Town Hall.

It was a fantastic day with employers from all different sectors offering over 500+ jobs! 
GRYFFE HIGH SCHOOL - EMPLOYABILITY

Bob and Hugh Gilbert from Atos gave a talk recently to the new S5's at Gryffe High School about CV's, application forms and interviews.

YOYP #EDUCATIONSHOULDBE

As 2018 is the Year of Young People the younger team members of DYW West and DYW Glasgow have teamed up to tackle the objective of the Year of Young People 2018.

If you are 26 or under, through this platform you are invited to contribute to a bank of thoughts around education in Scotland - by completing the sentence ‘Education should be…’ by visiting www.educationshouldbe.scot

This month we visited S1 and S2 pupils from Linwood High School to give them the opportunity to have their say and get involved with #educationshouldbe!

LARKFIELD JOBS FAIR
A big thank you to Riverclyde Homes for inviting us along to the Larkfield Jobs Fair on 29th May!

The event, held at Larkfield Community Hall, was a great opportunity for the public to come and see the great jobs that were on offer.

Business people that are on Linkedin can offer up their time to support young people by signing up to Founder4Schools.
