Lifeline Chicago is happy to report on the status of the third project for Spomenak Orphanage, supported by funds raised by the Tri-State Pittsburgh committee. This round of funding was earmarked for new windows and draperies at the orphanage. As a result, all of the children's bedrooms received new windows and draperies. In projects completed in 2015 and early 2016, the Tri-State Pittsburgh committee's support has replaced the central boiler system, in addition to repairing and painting the entire ground floor area of the building.

In the past year, Lifeline Chicago had two wine tasting fundraisers, one in Rochester, Minnesota, at the home of Dusica and Srdjan Babovic and another in Chicago with Their Royal Highnesses in attendance. These events raised 26,000 euros for a transesophageal probe and monitor for pediatric electrocardiography for the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at the University Children's Hospital. The probe was delivered in May 2016 and is already in use at the hospital.

The John and Mildred Medich Wuchenich Foundation funded the purchase of 400 new mattresses for the Kovin Psychiatric Hospital in Serbia. The Wuchenich grant was the largest single donation ever made to the Kovin facility. To supplement this purchase, The Associates of Lifeline Chicago hosted fundraising activities to purchase mattress covers for the newly purchased mattresses. Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine made the official presentation of the items to the Kovin facility director.

UPDATE: As previously reported, The Ambassadors of Lifeline Chicago had a spring fundraiser on April 3 in Chicago. The group donated the proceeds of the fundraiser to purchase mattresses for the Plavi Cuperak kindergarten in Cukarica. Princess Katherine personally supervised the delivery of the mattresses to the school.

The 2nd Annual Chetnik Family Reunion committee recently presented Lifeline Chicago with a donation totaling $2,318.03. These funds will be used for abatement of mold and lead paint in the Plavi Cuperak kindergarten school in the Zeleznik municipality of Cukarica. This donation will help to improve the environment for about 100 students who attend the school on a regular basis. Thank you to the Chetnik Reunion Committee who has pledged to donate a portion of all future reunion proceeds to Lifeline Chicago projects.

The Four Kolos of Northwest Indiana have focused on working with HRH Princess Katherine to help women and children who forced into shelters due to unemployment, family issues or other unfortunate circumstances. There have been recent deliveries of clothing and personal items made to a shelter for abused women in Novi Sad and to a youth social service protection shelter in Kragujevac. Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine personally supervised the delivery of these needed items to the directors of these facilities.

Thank you, J.C. Hanley, Carmel IN high school student and varsity baseball player, for organizating a baseball equipment drive for aspiring student athletes in Serbia. J.C. responded to a story in the local Carmel paper which mentioned the need for gently used sporting good donations in Serbia. J.C. contacted Rade Savich of Indianapolis (a Lifeline committee member) and asked Rade when he could pick up the items that J.C. collected for Lifeline! Thanks for getting the word out about Lifeline in central Indiana, Rade.

ABOUT LIFELINE: The Chicago Office of Lifeline Humanitarian Organization supports the work of HRH Crown Princess Katherine Karadjordjevic of Serbia. Lifeline was founded by Princess Katherine in order to provide critically needed humanitarian aid to the neediest people of Serbia.

Our goal is to reduce and relieve the suffering of physically and mentally disabled children, orphans, the elderly as well as to improve medical facilities in the country.
