Look Forward, Travel Back with DADA’s 1st Fri Gallery Hop and Historic Bethabara 

The Downtown Arts District Association (DADA) invites you to literally “Look Forward, Travel Back” in honor of the new Visit Winston-Salem slogan, DADA 1st Friday Gallery Hop and Historic Bethabara on Friday, December 6 from 7-10 pm. 

Triad Trollies will pick up Arts and History lovers at our “Travel Back Trolley Stop” in front of Studio 7 next to the Sixth and Cherry Street Parking Deck. The Trolley will be en route to Historic Bethabara Park where the 1788 Gemeinhaus will be open for a tour featuring traditional Moravian holiday decorations. 

The trolley, complete with a costumed interpreter from Historic Bethabara, will run the route between the DADA Gallery Hop and Historic Bethabara continuously beginning at 6:30pm at Sixth Street through the final drop off at Sixth at 9:30. 

Trolley rides are $2 per person, round trip, and include entry to the Gemeinhaus. Tickets can be purchased here.

HOP FEATURES: The 600 block of Trade will host a performance from the Bethabara Moravian Band beginning at 7:30. 

The DADA Members Gallery at North Trade Street Arts at 604-A N Trade Street will present an exhibition of watercolors by DADA Member Rick Jones “Bethabara: A Historical Reflection” 

The Bethabara potter will will be inside the DADA Gallery which will also be decorated for the holidays in traditional Moravian style.

NTSA will have Moravian ginger cookies and coffee mugs available for sale. 

The 600 block of Trade will present DADA’s growing collection of photo stations, street chalk for you to create your own masterpiece, hula hoops and bubbles.

New Gallery Exhibition Openings, Open Studios, Shop Collection Openings and DADA business location participation throughout the Arts District.

Steele Group Architects (SGA) Art Studio is very excited to present "Abstract Paintings by Connie Dodd" featuring various works of oils and acrylics. Connie is a self-taught artist currently residing in Winston-Salem where she continues to pursue her life long love of painting. Her work has evolved from fashion illustration, wildlife illustration, and freelance graphic art to more traditional watercolor, then impressionistic style, and finally expressive abstraction.

Dodd's work is vibrant, energetic, and colorful. The art will be on display and available for purchase during the DADA First Friday Gallery Hop December 6th, from 7:00pm-10:00pm, and during normal business hours until December 31st.

Artworks Gallery Presents

Following a long tradition of December Holiday Exhibitions, Artworks Gallery members are exhibiting work in a variety of mediums and techniques with the common theme of “HOME”. A portion of all art sales during the entire month will be donated to greeNest, a unique local program, modeled after The Green Chair Project in Wake County, that provides household furnishings to individuals and families transitioning to sustainable housing. 


In addition, Artworks Gallery members have individually hand glazed a collection of original ArtPlates available for purchase as a fundraiser for both greenest and Artworks Gallery.  Works of art will be perfect for gift giving and may be taken from the gallery upon sale so they are available for the gifting season.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Bethabara, A Historical Reflection

A new show by Rick Jones

The show features a series of watercolor landscapes focused on historical locations and buildings preserved at Historic Bethabara. 

Included in the display is “1788 Bethabara Gemeinhaus at Night” that has been selected as the artwork for a new Christmas Card to be available at the Bethabara Visitors Center and The DADA Gallery @ North Trade Street Arts. The folded cards are printed on linen paper suitable for framing or penning a special message and mailed with the accompanying envelope. Cards will be sold separately and are a fundraiser for Bethabara and DADA.

Immerse yourself in Moravian holiday traditions at Historic Bethabara Park!

Friday, December 6th 6:30-9:30 PM
- DADA- Downtown Arts District Association 1st Friday Artwalk: Look forward, Travel back with DADA & Historic Bethabara
- Park in downtown Winston-Salem near (or in) the Sixth and Cherry Street Parking Deck. Trolleys from Triad ECO Adventures will take visitors from the Artwalk to the Gemeinhaus at Historic Bethabara Park to see the park lit up at night and experience the Gemeinhaus by candlelight.
- The trolley will pick up at the "Travel Back Trolley Stop" in front of Studio 7 next to the Sixth and Cherry Street Parking Deck. The trolley will run continuously between DADA Gallery Hop and Historic Bethabara Park from 6:30PM-9:30PM. A recommended donation of $2 per person covers round-trip travel and entry to the Gemeinhaus.

Saturday, December 7th 2:00-6:00 PM
-The Gemeinhaus will be decorated for Christmas and open for candlelit tours while world-renowned violinist, Jennifer Curtis, from the International Contemporary Ensemble performs in the sanctuary from 2:00-4:30 PM.
- The Carolina Colonial Dancers will be back to dance for us with their intricate colonial costuming inside the Brewer's House.
- Stuart, Bethabara's potter, will be creating Moravian pottery in the Potter's House
- The Triad Woodcarvers and Joel Cooper will be at the barn with their wares
- We will have textile demonstrations in the Log House
- Make a Moravian star or try your hand at Christmas tree quilling (fun for visitors of all ages) in the Visitor Center
- Shop local artist, Haint Blue Studio, and our gift shop for all your local, unique Christmas shopping needs
- The Saturday festivities end with a traditional Moravian Lovefeast service put on by Bethabara Moravian Church starting at 5:00 PM.

The Lovefeast is a traditional, Moravian, religious service put on by Bethabara Moravian Church. Because of the limited capacity of people we can legally accommodate in the sanctuary, we will be passing out (free) tickets to attend the service, first-come-first-served from the front door of the Gemeinhaus on the day of the event starting at 4:30 PM.

Free Holiday Movie December 20 beginning at 7 pm. Doors will open at 6:30. Yes, it's free, but donations are greatly appreciated. Snacks and beverages available. 

Are you interested in taking part in, or coming to, a last minute art and crafts fair for those last minute shoppers. ARTC Theatre and Studio 7 are in the planning stages for just such an event. We call it the Holiday Wrap Up. Just as a show wraps up and strikes the set to go home and relax, we realize that many people wait to the final days before the holiday to wrap up their shopping. So the Holiday Wrap Up came into being.

Vendors wanting to participate need to email Marsha at before December 12. Participation fee is only $25. You bring your table and set up, we provide the indoor location at ARTC Theatre. Hours are Saturday, December 21 from 1-7 pm and Sunday, December 22 from 1-7 pm. DADA board members will be on hand to sell refreshments to the shoppers. Let's see if we can pull this final small business opportunity together and end the year on a high note.
2nd Thursday with DADA and Sixth and Vine December 12, 2019

We are thrilled to announce that 6th and Vine has joined DADA and will be our OFFICIAL RESTAURANT for 2nd Thursday’s! 6th and Vine will have wine specials on Thursdays and soooo.... we are going to emphasize Demos and Discounts and staying open late until 8pm (at least)!

2nd Thursdays is a no streets blocked & no OUTSIDE vendors ... except for locations that host a guest INSIDE their shop/studio/gallery!

Spring Theatre will hold one public performance of The North Pole Centennial Holly Jolliday Christmas Yule-A-Palooza! 7:30 pm on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Reynolds Place Theatre within Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts, 251 N.
