Steele Group Architects (SGA) Art Studio is very excited to present "Abstract Paintings by Connie Dodd" featuring various works of oils and acrylics. Connie is a self-taught artist currently residing in Winston-Salem where she continues to pursue her life long love of painting. Her work has evolved from fashion illustration, wildlife illustration, and freelance graphic art to more traditional watercolor, then impressionistic style, and finally expressive abstraction.

Dodd's work is vibrant, energetic, and colorful. The art will be on display and available for purchase from October 28th, with an opening reception during the DADA First Friday Gallery Hop November 1st, from 7:00pm-10:00pm, and during normal business hours until December 31st.

Artworks Gallery Presents

James Gemma, "EXPLORING: New Directions in Abstraction"
and
Kimberly Varnadoe, “UNDER THE SUN: New Directions with Light”.

Exhibition dates: October 27 - November 30, 2019
Reception Sunday, November 10, 2 – 4 pm

Open for Gallery Hop: Friday, November 1, 7 - 10 pm

James Gemma recently began pursuing acrylic painting in an expressionistic, abstract manner. This exhibition represents a personal exploration of new directions for Gemma. Color and shape relationships are key, but in these approaches, Gemma strives for a free style that maintains principles of organization. The objective is not to focus on any one idea, but to find those that best realize his personal vision. The works in this exhibit are a manifestation of this experimentation.

Kimberly Varnadoe is experimenting with cyanotypes and other light based applications combined with collage and mixed media techniques. Varnadoe has worked with a focus on light throughout her artistic career and has recently explored cyanotype, pushing the boundaries of the medium and incorporating it with experience in printmaking and experimental photography. “Under the Sun” is an aspect of this recent work, as each piece in this exhibition has been created through the exposure to natural sunlight.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The DADA Gallery at North Trade Street Arts Center presents

Dragonflies and Janis Joplin
A new show by Monica Cecil

I came upon Janis Joplin sitting in a live oak tree, with a swig from her bottle and strum of her guitar she cackled and said to me: Get off yer butt and feel things, Get it while you can cause YOU KNOW it may not be here tomorrow...live it love it hold it squeeze it breathe it like it’s the last minute of yer life.

And then she said: You know what to do! Go with Gaia, the dragonflies will guide you; change is not to be feared but embraced. And as the Nightbird took flight her trailing cackle became song... “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.”

Find Something Wonderful

Presents
Sean McNamara

Join us for November Gallery Hop with featured artist, Sean McNamara! Meet the artist and our woodworkers for a night of fun and kick off to the holiday season!

Sean Robert McNamara is a digital painter based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He draws inspiration from his memories of growing up in the Hudson Valley, observing the nuanced interactions between diverse cultures and aesthetics: the cosmopolitan stewarding the pastoral, the blue-collar living among the artifacts of colonial opulence, the myth of nature in a land that has been shaped by humans for millennia. Live spoon carving and floral designs will also be there for your enjoyments. Support local art!
