Steele Group Architects (SGA) Art Studio is pleased to host various art by Marlow Sherrill & Tylin Conner. The artists, both students at Salem College, present a mixed media exhibit featuring painting, collage, and textile works. Marlow Sherrill creates mixed media portraits, collages, and practices embroidery and tapestry weaving. Inspired by traditional women’s craft, her work focuses on the relationships women make with the world and with each other.

Tylin Conner finds working in acrylic painting, intaglio printmaking, colored pencil, and charcoal award her the most control. Her subject matter often comes from key points in her reflections paired with historical allegories in form and position.

Ginny Stocker

Ginny Stocker is a pastel painter who splits her time between Winston-Salem, NC and Dover, OH. New to Winston-Salem, this is the first showcase of her work in our city of Arts and Innovation. Her style in pastel painting is reminiscent of the impressionist period with the free flow of her strokes and the manner in which she captures light in outdoor scenery. Her work just makes you feel good! Be sure to stop by for DADA's Gallery Hop on October 4th from 6-9pm to meet the artist.

Light snacks and wine curated specially by Ginny will be available as you shop and enjoy her beautiful work. If you can't make her show opening, her work will be displayed from October 3rd-30th. Lets welcome this new artist to our amazing city! Other information: We will have live spoon carving happening for Gallery Hop. You can meet our woodworkers and ask any questions about our products. "Mary, Queen of Scots" 1971
Special Screening on October 6, 2019
3:00 PM
a/perture cinemas

Vanessa Redgrave stars as Mary Stuart of Scotland, with Glenda Jackson co-starring as Queen Elizabeth I. As with the earlier Maxwell Anderson play, Mary of Scotland, the film sympathizes with Mary, and there are two fictionalized face-to-face confrontations between the two queens (who never met in real life). With this film, old-line Hollywood producer Hal Wallis continued his trademark of showcasing dynamic stars within a period milieu; the film is literally swamped with lavish Tudor decor.
Rated PG-13, 128 minutes

Opera: What's All the Shouting About?

In this installment, James Allbritten will examine Donizetti’s Tudor tragedy, Maria Stuarda or Mary, Queen of Scots, leading up to Piedmont Opera’s performance of the opera in October. Donizetti is well known for his tragic Lucia di Lammermoor and his comic Elixir of Love – but English history? Mary Stuart is actually one of three operas he wrote all upon the lives of the English Queens. First, we’ll spend some time getting to know our two leading ladies, Mary, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I, from a historical perspective. Then we’ll look at the challenges Donizetti faced, and the skill he used to turn Mary’s tragedy into his triumph. Included in the class is a ticket to the Student Night performance of Piedmont Opera’s Mary, Queen of Scots which will be conducted by your instructor!
