Our commitment to WC Surf Members extends beyond these difficult times.
April 6, 2020
Hello WC Surf Families,
On behalf of the Walnut Creek Surf Soccer Club we wanted to express our hope that everyone is healthy during this difficult time in our country. We know as a community we are very challenged with the current stay at home mandate, but we will persevere and stay strong together.
We want to express our gratitude for your patience and continued support as we navigate the uncharted waters of this pandemic. Our biggest concern is the health and safety of our players, coaches, families, referees and all members of our community while also doing everything possible to protect the club for the future.
We have and will continue to keep you informed of the latest developments in the club, your team, and your son or daughter. This will come in the form of newsletters, emails, and social media posts. If you are not receiving regular communications from your individual teams it is important to let us know.
As a Board of Directors we are committed to the following:
1. Offering the best virtual learning, training, and fitness environment possible for the players who are on a spring competitive team;
2. Using the resources available to us to keep our awesome trainers, staff, and management employed and engaged;
3. Being prepared to finish the Spring season or State Cup if it is at all possible;
4. Being prepared to address the formation of teams for the 2020/2021;
5. Having all of the logistics in place for the upcoming recreation, select, and competitive seasons; and,
6. Continuing to be fiscally responsible with a goal of enabling the club to thrive into the future while still supporting our families and players.
The many unknowns of this situation push us to make quick, thoughtful, and sometimes profound changes in our service. As a Management Committee we are meeting multiple times a week to deal with the ever changing new world we are living in.
Please continue to support your son or daughter’s virtual learning by encouraging them to keep up with meetings scheduled by your trainers, coaches, and club administrative staff, and lastly by staying safe and healthy.
We understand that this is a very trying time for many families. The club we are continuing to pay our staff as for many this is the only source of income they have. That money had been budgeted for them last year and we are hopeful we can continue to pay them. With that in mind, we hope that most families are able to see the value their children are still getting and will not ask for a refund for the spring. We also recognize that finances may be a concern for some families. Therefore, if you are in need of assistance please contact us directly to discuss what can be done. Again, as a Board and Management Committee we are doing what we can to make sure the club survives and that we are able to keep our amazing staff but want to balance that with what is healthy for our larger community.
As a Board we also want to recognize the extraordinary job that Steve Chappell, Adam Cooper and Katie Chatterton have done over the past few weeks in guiding the club. They are working tirelessly with NorCal, Cal North, neighboring clubs and the Board to ensure the club continues to function and emerges from this difficult time as strong as ever.
If you have any concerns or questions please email Steve Chappell or any member of the board directly. Please stay home and stay safe and know we are confident that we will get through this together.
