Hello Walnut Creek Surf Soccer Club community,

We know this is a very very difficult time for everyone, and we remain optimistic that healthier times are ahead!  With careful planning, we are hopeful to resume playing on the field soon.

Today's newsletter brings reminders about our recreation registration and competitive program updates, including the 2020/21 professional coaching staff announcement.  We are also developing new safety protocols for our anticipated return to play and want to invite members of our club to contribute as a part of a collaborative working group.

We are forming a club Health & Safety group to review and collaborate on specific guidelines for when we return to play.  We are asking for one current club member in each of our recreation, select and competitive programs to volunteer.  It is critical we have your availability to participate, starting Monday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 20th for a series of comprehensive meetings.  The Health & Safety group will also include current management committee members from each of our 3 programs, a board member, the President of the club, the DOC and GM.  This group will be responsible for creating Health & Safety guidelines that our club will follow when we return to play.  If you're interested in participating in this group, please email wcadmin@wcsc.org with your name, program for which your son/daughter played in for the 2019/20 season and contact information.  The deadline to submit your email is Sunday, May 17th at 5:00pm.  We will be scheduling our first meeting for the afternoon, this coming Monday, May 18th.

Lastly, we can't enter the weekend without a fun soccer PSA - The German Bundesliga returns to league action tomorrow and Sunday!!!!  With no fans in the stands, this televised event marks the anticipated return of live soccer.  Check your cable or satellite provider for match times.

Healthy regards,
WC Surf SC

Select Program News and Notes:

Fall Select 2020 -
Due to the county Shelter in Place (SIP), we had to cancel the May scheduled tryouts.  Our planning for the Select program is ongoing and hope the return to play this fall will coincide with our recreation and competitive programs too.  Since Select teams are formed by the tryout process, we are hopeful for a July tryout for the U10, U12, U14 and U16 age groups.  We suggest players that have interest in our Select program register HERE so we have your contact information and can communicate to you directly with updates.  If you've already registered for Fall Select, no need to register again.

Parents - if you're interested in coaching a select team, we encourage you to reach out to our Select Coordinator, Mike Lattanzi at mlattanzi@wcsc.org for more information.

Competitive Program News & Notes:

Competitive 2019/20 team updates:
All 2019/20 players were sent our Team/Player Transition Plan earlier this week.  More detailed information regarding this plan can be viewed on our web site HERE.  We are very sensitive to the Covid19 situation and the unlikelihood of being able to host traditional tryouts for team selections.  Thus, we put together a plan that focuses on players first, for our expected return to play after months of shelter in place.

Referee Resources & Education

New Referee Courses - The CNRA (California North Referee Association) has not scheduled any Entry Level Courses to date. Anyone interested in becoming a Referee in the 2020-2021 Season, may contact Referee Director, Sal Crispi, at assignorsal@astound.net. You must be a minimum of 13 years old to serve as an (AR) Assistant Referee & 14 years old to serve as a Referee or AR as of August 1st, 2020.  When courses are available, you will be notified when & where to apply.

The WC Referee program is ongoing via CNRA Webinars offered through Zoom online on Monday’s & Wednesday’s.  In addition, informational links to websites offering game scenarios & tests have been published.  The Sr Staff & Ass’t Assignor Staff are meeting monthly online via Zoom in preparation for the beginning of the Fall Season, if and when that should occur.  Finally, we are also encouraging Referees to maintain fitness so we can hit the ground running when the season starts.
