South Tonbridge          12 June 2016

President's Welcome

Hello members,

So STWI made it through our first successful year and now we're looking forward to our second with some new committee members and 10 shiny new members. We're putting the next year's programme together at the moment and you'll be pleased to know we're asking the very popular 'Mr Conspiracy Theory' back again for another talk (different subject!) You'll also thank me if you start collecting ring pulls now too. Seriously, you will be pleased to have this heads up for another of our speakers! I have 4 so far......
Tonbridge Carnival is fast approaching and we are really keen to have a good turn out for parading up the high street and produce for our stall on the Castle Lawn. Q The handicraft group has made us a banner, which will be at Tuesday's meeting for us all to gush over! Helen, our new Events Co-ordinator will give you more info on this on Tuesday and there will be another dedicated email before the event too. Don't worry if dressing up isn't your thing, it really is the turning up that counts.
See you all on Tuesday for the now legendary Bob! We're in the massive Medway Hall at the Angel Centre this time,

Members Meeting: Bob Maddison

Committee Update

Lesley, our Treasurer, presented our budget for the forthcoming year and I'm pleased to say we're in credit! She will outline the budget at our next meeting.
We have a new VP, Secretary and Assistant Secretary for this coming year and Sara, Laura and Katherine will be going on the West Kent Federation's committee training days at Ethel Hunt Lodge in July.
We are going to try out a 'Secretary's Table' at our next meeting which is something that we saw done successfully at North Tonbridge WI when we went the other month. We get lots of info through and it is difficult to communicate it all so we'll set it out on this table for everyone to view before/after our meeting.

Let us know if you would like a 2017 West Kent Diary for £4.50.

Let us know if you would like a West Kent WI 2017 Calendar for £3.50. The theme of the photos is Gateways and Archways in West Kent. It also comes with tear-off post cards for each month.

Member Profile: Sara Scannell, Vice President
Age: 57
Where are you originally from? I was born in Chichester, Sussex but moved to Portsmouth when I left home at 17, I then moved to Shropshire before returning south and settling in Tonbridge, after a brief stay in both Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells.
How do you spend your days? I live with my lovely husband and my two dogs.  I work in Tunbridge Wells as an IT project manager, which gives me the chance to work from home at least one day a week.  I have two grown up children and have very recently become a grandmother, so I hope that will take up lots of my time.
What is your favourite thing about living in Tonbridge? The friendliness of the people, the river and the green spaces.
What unique skill or area of knowledge can you share with our members? I can make silver jewellery.
What is your theme tune? Anything but Ordinary – Avril Lavigne
