President's Welcome

Hello All

So here is July and we're all enjoying the tremendous weather right..?! It was gorgeous for the Tonbridge Carnival in June though and it was lots of fun 'parading' up the High Street fortuitously behind the samba band.

We've got some more fun stuff coming up too - gin tasting tour of Anno distillery at Marden in August anyone?! More details below - spaces are very limited and you'll need to bring your money to Tuesday's meeting.

There is no formal meeting in August but we'll be having either a bring your own picnic and rounders thing in the park or if it's raining, Wetherspoons like last year.

In October we have secured the services of Mr Mark Scannell as Quiz Master again and will be repeating (by popular demand!) last year's fun quiz night at the rugby club.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday when a local historian will talk us through the history of Tonbridge. Less interactive than Bob in June although I now know how to hold my phone to get maximum signal! Thanks Bob!

See you Tuesday!
Becky

She began speaking when Tonbridge Historical Society asked her to do some local history and then, after she took early retirement and began to volunteer at Ightham Mote and was asked to join the National Trust Speakers panel and now speaks all over the South East.

Handicrafts Group - give us your thoughts!

Have you always wanted to learn how to do a certain craft? Can't make it to the last Tuesday of the month? To meet in a coffee shop or somewhere else?

The handicrafts sub group will be holding a stall after July's member's meeting to canvas thoughts on the running and activities of the group. It will be open to all members, not just current crafters so grab your bubbly wine or cup of tea after the main meeting and come and share your thoughts and ideas.

Which day of the month should we meet? Would you like organised activities at some meetings such as tutorials? Would you prefer a 'knit and natter' approach? Any suggestions as to where to meet? We'd love to hear from you at handicraftSTWI@gmail.com

Tonbridge Carnival Success!

Thank you to all who were involved in the Tonbridge Carnival. Weather you marched up the high street, baked cakes, did a stint on the stall or waved at us as we went through the town, together it made for a brilliant day. Special shout out to those of you who contributed to the banner, it looked magnificent and it was carried with pride through the parade.

We received lots of kind comments from customers and passers by of the stall on how great it is to see a new WI in the town. We made over £200 so thank you again to all the bakers and members who contributed items to sell. All in all it was a huge success so bring on Tonbridge Carnival 2017!

Queen's Tea Party: Hadlow WI

Accompanied by a staunch royalist, I attended the Tonbridge District WI Queen's birthday party at Hadlow village hall. On arrival, we were met by members in their glad rags, accessorised in either tiaras, crowns and rosettes in red, white and blue and then, there was us?? It was nice to see other members, making the effort to welcome us. We were entertained with a raffle, tombola, bagatelle and a pretty challenging quiz (due to a combination of acute hearing and intelligent guess work,  somehow I came joint second, so STWI wasn't put to shame). Afternoon  tea was in abundance and was followed by the acoustics of the Wealden Choir. Great hospitality and a lovely day out.
