Committee Welcome

Hi ladies

Happy New Year! It was great to see so many of you at our Christmas bash at the Fire Station in December - and yet again proving that 'singing-is-winning' for us lot!

We've had a great response to our social media posts for new members and hopefully we'll see some new faces at January's meeting. New members' name stickers will be in red for the first few meetings so please say 'Hello' etc to our newbies - it can be pretty daunting joining a new group!

The format of January's meeting will be a bit different with tea and coffee available throughout but if you want to bring a drink to enjoy then please do too.

See you then,

Becky

Members Meeting: Tom Carradine's Cockney Sing-a-Long

Tuesday, 10 January
19:30 - 21:30
Angel Centre

Our first members meeting sees Tom Carradine welcoming a new year with a good old cockney sing-a-long.  Tom will be talking briefly about his professional background, how his singalong was created, his interest in the vintage life and why he thinks it so important to keep these songs alive.  We will then join him in a sing-a-long to start 2017 in high spirits.

We think some liquid courage might help us all from the beginning so please bring drinks and nibbles to share if you can!

Previous Meeting Minutes

Call for Tea Rota Volunteers

We need help with making the teas and coffees, serving people and bringing some snacks to each meeting starting with the February meeting. There will be a sign up sheet at the next meeting, but you can also email Jo at joendersby@gmail.com, who manages all the rotas.
Thanks for your help!

Donations Needed for Local Hospital

Did you get any any unwanted Christmas presents of soap, body lotion, talc or shampoo? We can really use them in the stroke ward (22) of Pembury hospital where I work! If you wouldn't mind donating them, I know many people who would be very appreciative. Not everyone has a relative or friend to bring them nice things in hospital, NHS doesn't provide them and little things make a big difference when you are unwell. I will bring a box to the meetings from now on.

Crochet Scarf Workshop Success!

On a chilly Sunday in December, a few of us met at the old Forsyth hall to learn a new skill! Only a few knew how to crochet, but most of us learned for the first time! We set out to make this lovely scarf:

And we succeeded! April and Glynis have completed theirs and we had a fabulous morning learning together.

If you've seen a 'crafty' thing you'd like to have a bash at but don't know how to, let us know and we'll see if we can organise someone to show us all how and book a room to do it in!

District Carol Concert

STWI organised this year's Tonbridge District Carol Concert at St Saviours. We resurrected the District choir and several other WIs got involved with this. We are lucky enough to have a member who played the organ expertly and another member who was the musical director. After a rocky start (venue changes, say no more!) we had excellent support from the other WIs in the District and lots of thank you emails. We smashed it ladies! Boom!

NFWI Annual Meeting

7 June 2017
Echo Arena, Liverpool

The NFWI will host its Annual Meeting at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Wednesday 7 June 2017. Through a linking system (which you can read about here), we are required to send 1 delegate (travel and accommodation will be paid for each WI) to the meeting to cast our vote on the 2017 resolutions. We have the option to send a 2nd non-voting delegate however the STWI will need to pay their way, £136 and they will need to share a hotel room with the other delegate.

Thank you to Thushara for volunteering to be our delegate!

At the Christmas party you all voted to support  the first resolution:
