As expected, the Project's live programming is on hold at this time, but we look forward to connecting in person at farm visits or workshops as soon as possible. PA Women's Agricultural Network's Strengthening Our Food System Together in a Time of Crisis web discussion. Friday, March 27th from 12 noon-1:30pm.  Pre-register.

American Farmland Trust's  Farmer Relief Fund will launch soon to award small farmers with cash grants of up to $1,000 each to help with  disruptions caused by the coronavirus crisis. AFT is raising funds now; application should be posted later this week.

FACT (Farm Animal Concern Trust) seeks small farm input on the effects of the Covid-19 crisis on your operations. Take the survey here

USDA FSA and NRCS staff are still on the job. No walk-ins, but you can consult with your conservationist or loan consultant on the phone. Field work will continue following social distancing guidelines. Find your local service center
Free E-Learning Resources from Cornell & NCAT

(Melissa Johnson, WCCW)Cornell Small Farms Program is offering 2 free online courses (regularly $299 each) through March 27 ONLY.
  1. Between now and noon this Friday, go to and choose a course to enroll in.
  2. When you get to the checkout page, look for the "Add Coupon" link, and enter COVID19 in that field.
  3. Checkout for free, and get started on your course.
  4. Choose a second course if you'd like, but please limit your use of this coupon to two courses.
  5. Complete the course(s) before April 30, when you will lose access to the course materials.

Their Plan Your Farm Hub self-paced course combining videos, readings, and planning activities will prepare you to take first steps in developing your farm plan. This instructor-led course offers the opportunity to meet other new farmers, hear from successful producers, get your questions answered, and get feedback on your farm plans. (Always free.)

Open Grants

50 young or beginning farmers will be awarded $500 each. Apply by March 29 at

The Ethical Farming Fund is offering a Farmraiser Grant for independent, for-profit farms that serve Southwestern Pennsylvania OR are within 100 miles of Pittsburgh. Grant project's purpose should be to improve the welfare of current and future livestock that are marketed direct to consumers. Applications are due by March 27, 2020.
