Meat and Poultry Processing FAQs

Considering on-farm slaughter for poultry? Have questions about regs for meat processing at custom vs. USDA facilities?Regs at the federal  and state levels differ between meat and poultry. 

How can I talk to a real person to get clarity on federal regs? USDA's Small Plant Help Desk is the most direct way to find answers. to common questions  or submit a question to the technical experts. Email or call 1-877-FSIS-HELP (1-877-374-7435).

What about 'custom' poultry processing? Can your farm get an exemption? What are the <1000 and <20K bird exemptions? FSA Farm Storage Facility Loans
low-interest financing  to build or upgrade permanent storage facilities and to purchase portable (new or used) structures, equipment and storage and handling trucks.  Producers do not need to demonstrate the lack of commercial credit availability to apply. 
April 2020 CCC lending rates are: FSFL Rates
0.750% for Farm Storage Facility Loans with 3 year loan terms
0.750% for Farm Storage Facility Loans with 5 year loan terms
1.000% for Farm Storage Facility Loans with 7 year loan terms
1.000% for Farm Storage Facility Loans with 10 year loan terms
1.125% for Farm Storage Facility Loans with 12 year loan terms
