Featuring our Oregon Independent Vendors
Natural Wellness from Taste for Life

January 2022

Almost 40 years in business!
Country Vitamins opened in the fall of 1982 as an independent family owned business with a very limited product offering. The truth is over half of small businesses are 10 years old or less. One third of new businesses exit within their first two years, with half closing within their first five years.
How have we been able to achieve this?
Aside from sheer determination and tenacity (some might consider it stubbornness) by the owners, we believe there are two main reasons we have managed this longevity:
#1 The dedicated people who have and still work for Country Vitamins
#2 The loyal customers who continue to patronize our store.
In addition, we work in partnership with companies committed to integrity and quality which helps us maintain the high standard of excellence in our product mix. Many are independent, family-owned companies --in many ways like we are -- and we want to especially feature them throughout this year to let you know more about the people behind the products we proudly offer on our shelves.

Each month, featured companies will be offering special swag and raffle prizes. We will kick this off by featuring several of the Oregon based brands!
Eclectic Institute:  Founded by naturopathic physician and registered pharmacist, Dr. Ed Alstat in 1982, Eclectic was the first herbal company to use freeze-drying to preserve herbs. Situated on their 90-acre certified organic farm that utilizes the natural rainfall and beautiful sunshine to grow herbs in rich volcanic soil, Eclectic Institute is a leader in organic farming practices and offers an extensive list of organic herbal products.

Empower Bodycare:  In 2004, Trista Okel first started making CBD oil in her Portland Oregon kitchen with a Crock-Pot as a do-it-yourself endeavor to help her mom manage pain.  Her company has out-grown the Crock-pot production and has earned a reputation for continued commitment to delivering the highest quality products. Today, Empower Bodycare is still owned by Trista and her wife Michelle and is an award-winning brand and leader in the CBD topicals world, setting the standard for transparency and quality.
Mount Angel Vitamins: Established in 1974 and named after the community from which they operate, Mount Angel Vitamins is an Oregon-based independent vitamins and supplements company committed to helping consumers live simply and in wellness. Their facility is USDA organic certified ensuring that every process in their facility, as well as the facility itself, has been thoroughly inspected by Oregon Tilth. This certification includes vitamins and nutritional supplements, as well as  personal care products containing organic ingredients.  Their innovative products are packaged in earth-friendly  petroleum-free bottles since 2006, the first dietary supplement manufacturer to do so. Made from corn resin rather than petroleum, these bottles use 68 percent less fossil fuel than petroleum-based bottles.
Oregon's Wild Harvest:  Randy and Pam Buresh had a dream to naturally heal the body and the earth by growing and manufacturing organic herbal supplements. Randy's decades of training and experience as a compassionate registered surgical nurse fueled his search for less invasive treatments for illness and health conditions. Also, his passion as a steward of the land became the perfect segue into starting an herbal supplement business. Their commitment to quality herbal products starts on five hundred acres of organic and bio-dynamic farmland outside Redmond, Oregon. ‘Growing and procuring the best plant material, saving and replanting non-GMO seeds, and caring for the land to ensure that healthy plant material is available today, tomorrow and for generations to come' is the company’s mission. Meet Oregon's Wild Harvest
Suzi’s Lavender:  Harvesting wild elderberry and making all-natural "cure-all" healing salves has been a part of Suzi's family heritage since 1865. She began making the family salve in the dry, cold winters of Nebraska to soothe her own cracked fingertips. Now based in Forest Grove Oregon, she offers three distinct collections of products for all skin types and conditions, with new and exciting additions due to roll out this Spring! Meet Suzi

Portland Bee Balm: With a focus on creating a simple and pure product, Portland Bee Balm is a handmade lip balm based in Portland Oregon using beeswax from Pacific Northwest hives. They use a select handful of carefully sourced organic and local ingredients plus are wrapped in real wood instead of processed paper. We offer several flavors not distributed in the mass market.

Vitanica: Over 27 years ago, nationally recognized author, speaker, educator, researcher, and clinician, Dr. Tori Hudson created Vitanica, a dietary supplement line with the sole focus on the intricate and unique needs of women. Now offering over eighty products, Vitanica continues their commitment to maintaining the purity and effectiveness of their supplements to support health without contributing to toxicity, utilizing safe and effective ingredients. The entire product line is gluten-free, non-GMO and vegetarian suitable, including the use of plant-based capsules. Meet Dr Tori Hudson
