Dear Kensington Member Businesses,
I am pleased to let you know two advocacy letters I co-wrote to the provincial government last week on behalf of all Alberta BRZs/BIAs have borne fruit.
Small and Medium Enterprises Relaunch Grant I helped negotiate on your behalf awhile back is increased from up to $5,000 to a total payout of up to $20,000.
Grant application threshold reduced from 40% to 30% revenue loss
You can claim 15% of pre-pandemic revenues
Small and medium businesses ordered to close are eligible to apply
Small and medium businesses ordered to reduce activities (like eateries) may be eligible if that reduction of activities represents a 25% loss of revenues
Retroactive to March
If you received the previous grant you can reapply
If you did not apply before you can now.
Application portal: (link should be live on Monday)
Help is available
If you find applications like this daunting to do yourself one of our member businesses has found someone who will help you fill out your forms for a nominal fee. Please email Annie if you want help and I can pass on your name and contact information for follow up.
You can alternatively contact https://businesslink.ca/contact/ for one-on-one free help/advice for your businesses.
Emergency Rent Subsidy (no participation of landlord needed)
The new Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) program has an improved rent relief program. There is no minimum revenue drop required to qualify for the subsidy. It will provide direct rent relief to renters and property owners without requiring participation from landlords and is scalable based on the percentage of revenue loss. Businesses that have experienced a drop in revenue may be eligible for a subsidy to cover part of their commercial rent or property expenses from September 27, 2020 until June 2021. Apply here.
New Low Cost Calgary Delivery Group
Ditch the Kitch is another local Calgary group which is offering a reduced delivery charge for participating businesses: https://www.ditchthekitch.ca/en/.
Lighting up Kensington!
Watch for social media about wonderful colourful new art installations in Kensington that we have worked on. The project is called “Kensington Bright.” Again if you have not already decorated your window please consider doing so or even just lighting it to add to our ‘lighting up Kensington’ project. Email me if you want me to drop off some free indoor lights strings to light up your window.
Thinking of you and yours this holiday season,
