ARC NEWS
Interagency Working Group Provides Guidance for Energy Communities Starting a Transformation
Yesterday, the Interagency Working Group on Coal & Power Plant Communities & Economic Revitalization hosted a webinar for communities working to transform their energy-impacted economies.

Attendees were joined by content experts, educators, and the CEO of ARC Partner Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, Gerry Roll. They discussed best practices for addressing fundamental industrial change in communities and walked through a step-by-step guide to engaging with stakeholders on the process.

Read more about the webinar here and check back soon for a recording of the session.
PARTNER PROFILE
Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation
Last week, we rolled out our new(ish) In the Region template. This week, we're excited to introduce you to Partner Profiles. Each week, you can expect a quick snapshot about ARC partners and projects, and how they're meeting needs and seeing results in their Appalachian communities.
Grantee: Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation

Location: Lewisburg, PA

Project: Reboot Workforce Program; received $2.1 million ARC POWER grant in 2020

Community Need: Surrounding counties have experienced a 62% decrease in coal-related employment and have suffered from disproportionally high rates of substance use disorder, both of which were exacerbated by COVID-19.

Solution: Develop a program offering access to treatment services through telemedicine, and provide a referral pipeline of job candidates who are in recovery and ready for employment. Those candidates will be matched with recovery friendly employers, ultimately receiving the support and employment opportunities they need for long-term recovery.

Outcomes: To date, the program has facilitated a Recovery Friendly Workplace training seminar for local businesses and community partners, drafted a manual for speaking with businesses about available opportunities and continued working with local opioid coalitions to make sure employers are connected to recovery support systems. They published a survey to better understand employer perspectives and raise awareness for the Recovery Friendly Workforce Initiative and have created 5 public videos to promote the Reboot program to the community.

If you have a partner or project you'd like to feature, please submit it via our story submission form, which will always be linked in this section.
