Committee membership: volunteer for a small role

Our club wouldn't run without the generous support of our members and volunteers. Being a committee member doesn't require a huge time commitment and can easily fit in around home, family and, of course, training commitments.

We're always on the lookout for members who can help with roles as simple as setting up our transition area for races, helping to check in our members for races, organising social events or BBQs and more...

Minor roles that can be shared among members include:

Registration officer: Help members check in at our races using the online app. This requires arriving at races by 6:30am to set up registration and check people in. You can always race too.

Timing officer: Help set up the timing mats and timing system and check that the system is ready for the race. This requires arriving at races around 6am to set up the system and do some pre-race checks. You can still race.

Race set-up: We are grateful to all of our members who can show up early to races and stay until the end to help put up the bike racks, timing tent and registration desk and the transition flags and cones. Volunteers are always welcome.

Marshal coordinator: Help coordinate our volunteers to ensure all marshal points are covered on race day. This role involves checking we have enough volunteers leading up to race day and assigning roles in the morning just before the race begins.

Uniform Officer: Help design and order our team uniforms including tri-suits and non-racing gear. This role involves researching uniform options, choosing designs and collecting orders from club members.

Member Officer: Ensure our members stay informed of the activities and benefits of the club and welcome new members to the club at races and events. This role involves coordinating the monthly newsletter and attending races and events where possible.

Other major roles include:

Club President
Vice-President (Strategic)
Vice-President (Operational)
Sponsorship Officer
Social Media Officer

Berry good start to NSW inter-club series

Berry duathlon was the first race in the 2019/20 NSW interclub series and it was a great start for the Illawarra Cannons (our ITC team name in the series). Illawarra ties for first place with our close rivals the Kiama Coasters.

This result was was buoyed by some outstanding performances from club members Witold Krajewski and Sile Crowe both securing first place in their age groups. Congratulations to everyone who raced.

In addition to our ITC Season Point Score (where you can race against other members of the club) you can also race with your fellow club members to earn points in the NSW South Coast Inter-club series.

NSW Duathlon Championship Winners

Congratulations to ITC members Sile Crowe and Witold Krajewiski for becoming the 2019 NSW Duathlon Champions! Both athletes put in solid performances at the Berry Duathlon in July to take home the state titles. The race was the first state championship event in a series to be held throughout the year. The next state championship is for Aquathon (1km swim, 5km run) at Cronulla Tri Club’s Richie Walker Aquathon (8th Feb 2020).

Did you know we had teamed up with Peoplecare, a not-for-profit, member owned health fund? Why? Because they’re just like us! They love to keep you fit and healthy and encourage an active lifestyle. And they exist for one reason only – to benefit their members.

The folks at Peoplecare genuinely love people and want everyone to know you don’t have to go bigger to get brilliant health cover. Plus, they know the aches and pains that come with being a triathlete, so their Extras cover, covering things like physio, chiro and osteo can keep you at the top of your game.

You’ve probably seen Peoplecare’s logo everywhere around Wollongong on the triathlon circuit but you might not really have heard about them. We’re pretty sure you’ll be happy we found them. Why? We’re glad you asked.

1. They’re personal. When you call them, they’ll answer – not a machine. And sure, they’ll give you a member number, but they’ll never treat you like one.

2. They tell it like it is – plain & simple. You’ll always know what you are and aren’t covered for. They’ll compare covers with other funds and if theirs isn’t the best one for you, they’ll tell you.

3. They know you’d rather be spending your money on something else, so they work hard to make sure you’re getting value for your money. They’re not-for-profit, which means they use your premiums for things like free health programs, not for paying shareholders and overseas investors.

4. They’re easy. They won’t make you jump through hoops to claim. You’re paying for cover, so you should be able to use it. They’ve got a mobile app, online services and on-the-spot claiming at providers.

5. Their members actually do love them. Well, 96% of them do (according to their 2019 member survey), which is pretty darn good!

Because we’re good mates, Peoplecare’s Mates Rates offer is available to all Illawarra Triathlon Club members.

Join or switch to Peoplecare for your health cover and you’ll get*:

• One month free membership
• Immediate cover for Extras benefits that usually have a 2 & 6 month waiting period
• Exclusive deals for Peoplecare members
• $200 for the Illawarra Triathlon Club

Even though a transition in a triathlon can be tough, transitioning to Peoplecare Health Insurance is EASY!

Join with the promo code ITC online or call 1800 808 706 to speak with one of their friendly Peoplecarers.
