New ‘This is Sheffield’ guide proves a big hit!
Our new 188-page full colour guide to Sheffield city centre’s independent and unique businesses has been warmly received since its launch this month.

The handy A5 book features more than 100 of our independent businesses to promote the diverse range of specialist traders located in and around the city centre.

Sheffield BID manager Diane Jarvis (pictured) said: “The city centre has so many hidden treasures that this guide is a must for everyone – even if they have lived and worked here all their lives.

“We’re thrilled to have produced the guide which is a great opportunity to showcase the independent sector and includes some really interesting facts and figures as well as stories from the city’s makers and doers.”

"What a brilliant guide - so much going on in Sheffield! Encourage anyone who doesn't know this fab city to take a look. #thisissheffield"

"Loving #ThisisSheffield from @SheffieldBid - food and drink galore #SheffieldisSuper"

"This is a great document to showcase Sheffield and all it has to offer"

Diane said: “Sheffield’s independent businesses are an important part of the local economy. This guide will clearly identify these businesses by signposting their locations allowing visitors and residents to easily reference and find them.

"We hope that this will benefit all our independent businesses, especially those not in clear view, operating on small margins or unable to invest in advertising.”

Hard copies have been flying off the shelves at Tourist Information, Sheffield Theatres and other venues. An online version can be viewed (and downloaded) on the publishing platform
What a weekend for destination Sheffield!

There truly was something for everyone when Outdoor City Weekender, the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival and Classical Sheffield all rolled into the city – with St Patrick’s celebrations adding to the fun.

BID Manager Diane Jarvis said: “It was all good news for city centre businesses, with Sheffield’s attractions, events, restaurants, bars, shops, music and arts gaining national media coverage and highlighting the city as a visitor destination.

“We saw an increase of around six per cent in footfall on the same time last year as a result of all the activities, which is a great start to a year of activity which businesses in the city centre can look forward to.”

Marathon effort for charity

We’re proud to be supporting a marathon effort to raise money for Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind. Virgin Money Lounge in Sheffield invited charities registered with its online fundraising service to apply for places in the London Marathon on April 23 and three runners will be taking part to raise funds for the local charity.

Diane Jarvis, Manager of Sheffield BID, said: “We recognise the importance of the charity and voluntary sector in bringing people together, supporting communities and providing solutions to a great many social issues, and for this reason, this group plays an important role within the BID. We are very pleased to support the marathon efforts of SRSB and wish the three runners the very best of luck on the day.”

Chance to dance - call for support
Sheffield’s annual dance festival Chance to Dance is calling for businesses to help this year’s July 1 event. Organisers are fundraising to meet the cost of the event which last year saw hundreds of dancers take part and thousands watch the spectacle. Chance to Dance is a one-day city centre dance festival that was established in 2000. The original idea came from Sheffield’s involvement in the World Health Organisation European Healthy City Movement.
