Students raise awareness of crimes of the state via TikTok

Students in Nicole Iturriaga’s “Crimes of the State” class made compelling videos on social media to raise awareness of myriad issues involving human rights. “You can get so much information in three minutes,” says the assistant professor of criminology, law and society.

PrisonPandemic documents COVID-19 toll 

Project awarded $157,500 ACLC grant

With more than 63,000 reported cases of COVID-19 in California’s prisons, UCI’s PrisonPandemic project is telling what it’s been like for prisoners, their families and prison staff members. The project has collected and is sharing on its website more than 1,300 stories. And, a $157,500 Sustaining Public Engagement Grant from the American Council of Learned Societies has been awarded to continue the project.

Discipline is 14th among public universities
