Severn Bites Breadmaking

Warm up this October

Dear Bread Lover

Recently I drove to the other side of England to meet up with fellow Real Bread Campaign Ambassador Sonya Hundal of Greenfield Bakers. It was a great opportunity to experience baking in a wood fired oven including a new skill  - log hurling! It's always great to learn something new.

With the nights drawing in and the rain tumbling down, it's all too easy to hide at home. Join me on a course this autumn instead. You'll have plenty of delicious bread and recipes to share with your families and friends.

Sourdough Basics

10 November £80
I'm introducing a new class, Simple Sourdough. Do come along and join in!

There are many different ways to make sourdough but everyone will agree it is a lengthy process. In this class I will show you all the stages using examples I have pre-prepared. You'll have plenty of opportunities to handle, mix and shape the dough and go home with some starter to nurture, a loaf and plenty of tips.

Did you know? All my classes can be run as tailored sessions, from £150 for 2 for a half day session. Just let me know what you'd like to bake!

Danielle provided a really enjoyable bespoke bread-making day on a one-to-one basis. A number of techniques were tried based on my specific requirements and it was both educational and fun, with plenty of delicious loaves to take away with me. Thoroughly recommended. David Sunter
Judging the World Bread Awards

Who are the bread award winners?

I spent a very enjoyable afternoon judging in the Real Bread category in the World Bread Awards. There was a really good selection this year from both amateurs and professionals

When judging, we have absolutely no idea who has submitted the breads we have in our section - they are simply numbered with a description of the bread. I'm off to London to the Awards Ceremony where I will then discover who made our top choice. I can't wait!  The photo shows a birds eye view of all the breads submitted.

Check out the winners from Wednesday.

One of the many highlights at the Abergavenny Food Festival was taking a cookery class with Asma Khan. She's a fascinating person with so many stories to tell. Listen to the At the Sauce podcast featuring Asma recorded at the show.
