This year’s 38th Annual Easter Ride, taking place for the first time in Frankfort on April 14th, is nearing its destination! Sign-ups will be taken on line or in person at Brent’s Plank Road Cyclery day of ride. Look for Ride Illinois “keeper” magazine which will advertise the Easter Ride, as well as other invitational rides in Illinois. Local bike shops will also have brochures available. Registration opens at 7:30 am and closes at 10:00 am. Early sign-ups are advised to help eliminate lines and waiting. All routes start and end in Historic Downtown Frankfort at Breidert Green Park. Routes will go to the Monee Reservoir first and from there you will have two optional 19 mile loops (in and out of the Monee Reservoir) before returning back to Breidert Green Park. One loop going to Peotone and the other loop going to University Park. We call this 3 tier early spring ride our Metric Century (100 Kilometers). By strong demand Bob Rapacki will provide music at the Monee Reservoir.
If cyclists choose to stay off the more traveled roads and ride a shorter distance, there is a 13 mile trail route to Barrens Shelter next to Schmuhl School Museum. The New Lenox Historical Society will open the school so riders can tour during the Easter Ride. There will also be an optional 3-mile loop at Brightway where riders can come off/on the trail and ride through a quiet subdivision before returning to Breidert Green by trail.
Our traditional egg salad sandwiches, cookies, and much more will be available at the Monee Reservoir and Barrens Shelter rest stops. Two of our sponsors, Trails Edge and Aurelio’s Pizza (9901 W. Lincoln Hwy) along with Kernel Sweetooth, Durbin’s Pizza and possibly a few other establishments neighboring Breidert Green will offer Folks On Spokes Easter Ride participants food discounts after the ride. To be eligible for the discounts the Frankfort establishments asked that you wear your wrist bands in the restaurant.
Once again the Easter Ride tradition is depending on your delicious, homemade cookies and helping hands. FOS Members can call the FOS Info Line (815 600-0454) or reach out to Fern, Sally, Larry, or Chris for Easter Ride work assignments.
Best wishes for a safe ride, beautiful day, and a great time for all.

Come hear Ed Barsotti from Ride Illinois speak at our next club meeting on February 28th 2018!!
Past-Prez Dan was able to secure a very notable speaker for our next meeting, Ed Barsotti from Ride Illinois (formerly known as the League of Illinois Bicyclists.) Since 1989, this organization has been at the forefront of promoting bicycling throughout the state. Our own Al Sturges gave his time and effort to co-leading the group for several years; come hear what the group has been up to regarding bike safety, bike-friendly designs of road projects, securing Federal funding for trails & bikeways, and much, much more! Again, the meeting will be on Thursday, February 28th at Lifetime Fitness, 16333 S. La Grange Road, Orland Park, IL 60467. The Ride Illinois program will be a very informative, potentially well-attended program for FOS this year; please RSVP on the Club Express website so Dan & Chuck can get an accurate headcount for Lifetime Fitness.
On Sunday, March 10, FOS will again participate in the Tinley Park Irish parade. We are walking to promote the club while having a great time. All members, family and friends are invited. Wear green and Irish garb if you have it. If not, come anyway.
Parade lineup begins at 11:30 at Central Middle School, 18146 S. Oak Park Ave. Parking will be limited at Service
King Repair Center. It is easier to find a side street and walk over. Oak Park Ave will close to thru traffic at 12:30. Step off is at 1:00 pm.
We will need members to help carry our banner and weather permitting, a few to ride their bikes. We have candy to pass out to the kids.
It is not necessary to let us know if you are coming, but it is helpful.
Questions contact Fern (708-747-7557) or Andi (219-781-7194).
