• Next week, paving on some of Wintergreen's residential streets will likely start, beginning a three-year effort, reports WPOA's Michael Barker. On the mountain, the new surface will go down starting on the roads on the upper part of the mountain. In the valley, work will start on the eastern side of Stoney Creek. See maps of the exact roads getting a new surface this year and details on the process HERE.
This work starts a new process where complete paving is done in phases, with the goal of having all Wintergreen roads covered in three years. "This will be a major change from what our property owners have seen for the last 40 years," says Barker. “No more patchwork roads.”
• A 10% water rate increase and 15% sewer rate increase was approved for Wintergreen mountain in July. Rates for water and sewer on the mountain are now $46.00 and $54.10 respectively, The News & Advance reported.
• Everyone is welcomed at the Wintergreen Sporting Club's Fishing Conclave tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm (Monday, Aug. 12) at Wild Wolf Brewing. WSC membership not required. Free. The only pre-requisite is having a love of fishing or wanting to learn and having a willingness to share your experiences and ask questions. See the details.
• The archery group of the Wintergreen Sporting Club is making a special effort this Tuesday, (Aug. 13th) from 9 am to 10 am or so to get people out to their range at Rodes Farm. They will have their loaner equipment at the ready and several of the seasoned regulars will be on hand to offer their insights, including John Morgan, a WSC member who is a certified archery instructor. It's free. Learn more.
• A kayak and canoe trip on the Upper James River is set for this coming Thursday with the Wintergreen Sporting Club's Boating Group. While the water levels in August are sometimes low, not so this summer. The club has everything in place for this fun day trip on the 15th with Twin River Outfitters in Buchanan, only an hour and a half away. Find out more.
