PINK SLIP - O35 PLAYERS

It is with great sadness that we inform our members of a death within the association. Jason Connolly was an O35 Friday Night player for St Marys Band Club who sadly passed away after his game on Tuesday night. Our condolences go out to Jason's family and the St Marys Band Club community.

This has emphasised the need for us to encourage O35 players to get their "Pink Slip". The O35 competition is one of the fastest growing segments of the game, with males and females over the age of 35 are looking to get fit or stay fit whilst enjoying interactions with friends and the larger football community. The "Pink Slip" serves an almighty purpose and takes 3 simple steps:
1. Check in with your GP
2. Get Active
3. Watch your diet and beverage consumption.

COMPETITIONS UPDATE

After a terrible start to the season as a result of some rather mind numbing rain, the season is now underway. Last weekend saw 178 competition matches played over the weekend which was a great result considering the number of clubs which still remained closed as a result of the recent weather. Office staff worked relentlessly on Friday to have as many small sided football games played as possible with only 3 teams missing out.

NEPEAN FA CUPS UPDATE
The Nepean FA Cup Elimination Round has began in the Men's Competition with the first 2 matches played last week and another 6 matches this week. Round 1 for the Men, Women and Junior Nepean FA Cups is scheduled to kick off on the 2nd and 4th May. If you know someone competing, head on down and cheer them on. The fixtures are available on the Nepean FA website under "fixtures" in the Competitions Tab. Remember to change the competition to "Nepean FA Cup".
Good luck to all participating in the Men's, Women's and Junior Nepean FA Cups.

STATE CUPS UPDATE
Teams have now been submitted to Football NSW for the State Cup Competitions. We have 22 teams across all age groups competing with 2 of the All Age Men's teams batteling it out in the Preliminary Round for the Men on the 30th April. Round 1 for the remainder of the age groups will kick off on the 7th May. Good luck to all representing Nepean FA.
WATERLOGGED NEPEAN FA
Mother Nature has not been kind to our fields. In March, Penrith had 230mm of rain! By comparison, the March average is just 70mm. In 2016, Penrith had just 16mm of rain in March and only 340mm for the whole football season! There is little anyone can do about this but wait out for fine weather. The fields around the district have been left waterlogged, too wet to play on, and too wet for heavy council mowing.
Enter the mower brigade. Clubs around the association organised to offer councils a helping hand to mow the fields. The stories from clubs reflect the determination of many to try their best to get the fields mowed, and up and running for play. From hand mowers, to lightweight ride-ons, the troops rallied around. There were people from under 5 to over 75 years old helping. They came armed with mowers, whipper snippers, rakes, wheelbarrows, and a club spirit to offer support. One club reported that the field fairies had visited during one of the few fine weather breaks, and mowed their fields.
At times, it was all in vain. As soon as the fields were mowed, Mother Nature stepped up once more with unrelenting weather. As Easter break starts, let's all hope for fine weather so that all fields can be mowed and marked ready for smooth sailing through the rest of the season.

FOCUS CLUB OF THE WEEK: ST MARYS BAND CLUB RANGERS FC

St Marys Band club is the longest standing club in the Nepean Football Association. The club was founded in 1960 by Stan Harris and Don Tinnion. The first year of the club was played in the Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association, before affiliating with the Nepean Football Association in 1961.

The club began with a single team nominated in the U14 age group who did not win a game the entire season. The club also ran for the first 2 years with no committee just a dedicated acting secretary, Stan Harris, who organised games and the administration side of the club.

The club now has 40 teams and approximately 600 members.

COACHING NEWS

Some of the nearly 400 coaches that have attended one of our Grassroots Coaching Certificate Courses in 2017 alone to help make footballing better for everyone in the NFA. We’ve been busy putting on around 22 FFA Community Coach Education courses since the season ended in 2016 until now and it’s not quite over yet. We have one more Grassroots course on Thursday 20th April at Wentworth Falls FC G/Roots WFFC and then our FFA/FNSW/NFA NFA G/R EXPO being held on 3rd May. Click on the links or check our website for registration and course details.
In the last 3 seasons, we’ve hosted 55 courses and had over 1600 coaches attend and gain an FFA Coaching Accreditation. Congratulations to all of them and thank you, from all your players, opposition, clubs, parents and us.
Now, if we could just get to put some of this education into practice!!! (I get it. I haven’t trained or played a game yet this season either. Looking forward to the 23rd!!!)

Quick reminder that coaches of Division 1 teams have only got a few weeks to finalise their accreditation. Teams who have coaches after 30th April without the appropriate qualification will not be eligible for points in their respective competitions.

ALDI MINIROOS UPDATE
Just a gentler reminder that coaches are NOT to be on the field during these games. We need the players to just play and enjoy themselves. Your role is not to control their moves and decisions, but rather set up the environment for them to make their own decisions and discover football. IF the coach is the game leader, then please just lead the game and do it for both teams and it certainly doesn’t need 2 adults doing it. Your players will thank you. If not today, then later when they have fallen in love with the game because they have been able to work it out themselves. Please don’t think that you have to show them how to play and that’s why you have to go on the field. If that was the case, we’d have coaches running around on the field in most games wouldn’t we?

NEPEAN FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM UPDATE
We’ve just completed our April school holiday clinics with over 100 players aged between 5 and 15 coming along to enjoy 3 days of football fun and challenges.
The NFDP season program will be starting soon- 1st week in May – so if you would like your child to come and join the NFA’s only endorsed development program, click this link for more details and the registration form. NFDP Season
The NFDP is a once a week training program that builds on the 4 core skills identified in the FFA’s National Curriculum. This training supplements your club commitments and is always a lot of fun whilst valuable football learning happens in a game based environment.
Feel free to contact our Football Manager, James Rankine, for any further information on coaching or player development.

MEMBER CLUBS TAKE ON EXTRA DUTIES

Everyone wants to see the players on the park and in true Football Family spirit, clubs who have been lucky enough to miss the rain, have opened their venues to host matches for venues which have had to close. First weekend in April, there were four venues playable. Second weekend, more venues were available. To those venues who hosted games, thank you. The extra work and time commitment by the club committees is acknowledged. Your volunteer work is greatly appreciated.
