FOOTBALL NEWS

COMPETITIONS UPDATE

Nepean Cup Tournaments are well underway with some age groups already up to Round 3. You can find out what stage each age group is up to by following the link below.

We do ask that all clubs remind their teams who have entered the competition to check their fixtures on the Nepean FA website. These fixtures are separate to the main competition and can be found by changing the competition type from “2018 Winter” to “Nepean Cup”.  Unfortunately we have received 3 forfeits so far in this competition due to teams not checking their fixtures.

NEPEAN FA BIDS FAREWELL TO THE HARWOODS

If you’ve been involved in football in Nepean over the last 30 or so years, you will have met or been served by either Jim or Sue Harwood (or both) at the Penrith RSL Fieldsat Jamison Park.   The Harwoods have been an amazing couple who have contributed to the fabric of local Football in the Nepean District and at Penrith RSL for 2 generations, and they will be sadly missed.

REFEREES UPDATE

Between a drop in numbers due to sideline/player abuse, and seasonal referee illness and injury issues, our numbers are slightly down on last season, and we’re only running at about 75-80% coverage on Sundays, which means the good old “Unofficial Club Referee” is making a bit of a comeback this season.

COACHES - DON'T GIVE UP - SET NEW GOALS!"

Our game can be beautiful and all things wonderful. It can also be cruel and harsh. That’s why we love it. We never know what’s going to happen. We can play well and lose, we can play terribly and win, but we always need to remember that losing doesn’t make us a loser!

What happens if your team isn’t winning? How can you turn that around?

REGULATIONS FEATURE

TECHNICAL AREAS

What are they?

The technical areas are an area marked on one side of a playing field, on a full size field for club officials and substitutions.

Where are they?
The technical area is made up of of two areas marked two metres from either side of the half way line, one (1) metre back from the side line, measuring six (6) metres x minimum one (1) metre deep.

Who's allowed in them?
The technical area shall house the coach and manager and substitutes for the teams taking part in the match. No other person may occupy the technical area. No person is permitted to issue instructions to players from any other area. Penalties may apply for breaches of this rule.

Why do we have them and when are they used?
The technical area allows the referee to monitor substitutions as well as coaching instructions. It is also the place where interchange of players takes place.

Players awaiting interchange, while in the technical boxes, must wear contrasting bids to their playing strip to help the match official clearly identify which players are on the field and which aren’t. This is especially helpful when play is close to the sideline.

CHINESE WHISPERS

Keep an eye out for an announcement coming soon about a great new sponsor coming on board.  Finals weekend is going to be so much better because of this new partnership between the Association and a very well respected local business.  We can’t tell you who or what just yet, but we’re bursting at the seams to introduce them to you!

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK

If you are over 18 years of age and you Coach or Manage a team, or you are a Club Committee person or Club Employee, Football NSW require you to obtain a Working With Children Check number.  Most of you can do so under a Volunteer status, which is free.
Club Registrar’s have been provided with all the information pertaining to this requirement with the workshop notes and guidelines.
