President's Message

Dear Fellowship,

I hope you are reading this message on a chilly day now that fall has finally arrived!  When faced with climate change, social and political unrest, and refugees seeking much needed help, I find myself honestly trying to make sense of things by turning to our principles.  Of course, there’s the interdependent web of life and the democratic process, but to me the most important has always been principle number one – the inherent worth and dignity of every person.  I’ve written and spoken about this one before, but it is one I feel like our fellowship regularly gets right, and this church year has been no exception!  Thanks to the enthusiastic help of our members – new and seasoned – we have a church budget completed, our second annual UU-Tober-Fest is right around the corner, we’ve opened our doors to community groups and organizations, as well as new and frequent visitors, and we are able to actively engage members of all ages in exciting new ways.  Religious Education is being led by a collection of dedicated members taking turns teaching the kids lessons about the big questions we try to answer as UUs.  And, some of our members who have struggled to hear services are now using the listening assisted devices to catch every word of our rich programs!  Soon we’ll even start work on bathroom remodeling so that anyone who struggles up and down the stairs will now have an easier time at the fellowship house.  What an important and exciting time to be a UU in Lima -and anywhere!  Thank all of you for everything you do!

Take care,
