President's Message

Dear Fellowship,

Last week we filled the fellowship house for the third annual Beantown Poetry Explosion and then followed it up with a heart-felt service from Cris, Maha, and Carla.  I felt renewed after both events.  Poets from many different walks of life touched on topics from love to secrets to safety to combatting racism and ending practices like mercy killings.  On Sunday, Cris, Maha, and Carla spoke on ending microaggressions, dismantling white supremacy and its effects on our culture, and understanding the role privilege plays in all our lives.  We learned together who we are, where we are, and how we might work to be the best UUs we are called to be.

I am excited for the summer, but also sad that our church year will be ending in only a few short weeks.  We have been building so much momentum in our membership, in our programs, and in our events!  I’m sure we’ll continue!  Soon we will have a new ramp, we will dedicate several children to the fellowship, we will bless the pets, honor the moms, and – thanks to some wonderful and much appreciated donations – start to revamp our sound systems and plumbing.  Stay tuned for all that is to come this summer and next church year!

Much love and many blessings,

Interfaith National Day of Prayer
Events & Updates
*Eight  Read-a-Lots! and friends met at Louise's in April and talked about Amor Towles' A Gentleman in Moscow.  It was enjoyed by all and included a wealth of Russian Revolution history.   The Count was greatly admired.
In May the group will discuss Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.  Date and time:  5/22 @ 6:00.   Location TBD. ~ Anne Edwards

*Unfortunately we we're unable to gather at the Rotary Pavilion this past Sunday, in fact either of the last two Sundays, for our annual Earth Day Awareness Celebration.   Over the past 19 years locally and 49 years nationally, this celebration represents an awareness and minimal understanding of our effect on our planet.  This includes our lifestyles, our economy,  our hobbies. We gather together and celebrate our planet in the beautiful city park,  unified in an effort to bring consciousness to the challenges we face moving forward with life. Thank you for being part of this great celebration over the years. We have a big one next year. Twenty years and going strong. We know how important our planet is. Let's show others what we need to do to turn this tide. Step up big for your mother. Stop the waste. Reuse. End our dependence on single use plastic. This is what it's about folks. All my love.  ~ Rae Neal

UU Lima celebrated Poetry Month with the Third BeanTown Poetry Explosion on April 27th.  Diana, Elizabeth Harper, Dawn Budd, Freddy Dunlap, Rene, and others read, then a sumptuous potluck was enjoyed, and then the competition went down, with Freddy and Dawn taking the top two prizes.  The quality of the poetry has increased greatly, and contestants took off to work on their submissions for our August event!!   Come, Muses, come!!
