The entire community deserves recognition and appreciation for doing their part to keep our community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Every person in this community has made sacrifices big and small for the betterment of the community, some by simply staying home, some by continuing to work whether at home or out in the community, some by not seeing their loved ones or cancelling vacations and not travelling out of the area, some businesses have had to close their doors, leaving some workers without work.  Sacrifices were made all in the spirit of keeping our community safe.
THANK YOU!

2020 Property Taxes

Your 2020 Property Taxes will be mailed to you at the end of August.  Property taxes form a very significant portion of the revenues of the Township of Madawaska Valley and are required to ensure that staff can provide the services and projects directed by Council through the budget process.

Your August tax bill is calculated based on the completed Township Budget and respective tax rates as well as the tax rates provided by the County of Renfrew and the Province of Ontario for education.  The Final (August) Tax Billing calculates all required amounts; less the amounts previously billed on the Interim (February) Tax Billing.  The Final Tax Billing Installments are due in September and October.

If your property tax payments are falling behind, please contact our office to discuss how we can help. Penalty and interest are fixed at a rate of 1.25% per month. Penalty and interest will accrue on unpaid taxes commencing on the first day of default and also on the first day of each calendar month thereafter.  If you are in tax arrears at the time of billing date, and the arrears remain unpaid before the first due date, there will be 1.25% interest added to the installment amount.  Payments received will be credited towards penalty/interest first and then to the oldest taxes owing.

Moved? Changed your mailing address?
It is the property owner’s responsibility to inform the Township of any changes of mailing address. To prevent misdirected tax bills, please advise us in writing of any changes as soon as possible. Please be aware, failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve you from payment of taxes nor liability of penalty for late payment.

The Municipality has changed to a lifetime dog tag license for a fee of $25.00. The goal of dog licensing is to ensure the Animal Control Officer can return stray dogs to their owners and not have to take them to the pound.  Lifetime licenses will fulfill this goal without requiring staff time to update the dog license and owner data every year.  For dog owners, this means that the dog license you buy will remain in effect for the life of your dog.  If your dog’s tag is lost, you can purchase a replacement tag for $5.00.  The Township of Madawaska requires all dogs within the municipality to be licensed and to wear a tag.  Failure to comply will result in a fine of $100 plus the purchase price of the tag.
