“Lord, bid war's trumpet cease; Fold the whole earth in peace."
                                                                     --  Oliver Wendell Holmes

State of the School
We are working on a State of the School presentation, with a date to be determined. The topics will include curricular and infrastructure improvements, the engaged role of our Pastors in the school, updates from the Board of Specified Jurisdiction, a presentation by the Parent’s Club, and a question and answer session at the end.

Howl At The Moon
There has been an a great collective effort on the part of many parents to make Howl at the Moon a monumental success. Please be sure to join us for what promises to be a memorable evening. Tickets are available at the door. I look forward to seeing all of you this Saturday!

Ask O’Rourke
Question: How do I put my volunteer hours in so they get counted?

Answer: First, let me thank you for the hours that you have put into answering the call when the school needs help.  The goal of the parent service challenge is to encourage a spirit of shared commitment among all families for the benefit of the school, students and community of Pope Francis Global Academy. Each family is asked to complete 20 hours of service each year (between April 1st at the end of one school year and March 31st of the following year.) Any hours not completed by that March 31 cut off will be billed to your family at $15 per hour.

Simply go to our school’s website and click on the “parent Information” tab and scroll down to “Log Volunteer Hours Here.”  This information will be populated into a spreadsheet from which we will add up your total hours. You should receive an email confirmation back when you log any hours. Please keep track of your hours too, just in case of any discrepancy when we go to calculate hours in the spring.

Leggings Clarification
In last week's Ask O’Rourke, we clarified that leggings could be worn UNDER the uniform skort or jumper in place of (or over) tights or socks. We tried to be clear that leggings MAY NOT be worn in lieu of a skirt. Nor may they be worn in lieu of gym pants. Think of leggings (in solid grey, black or maroon only) as an alternative to tights.  You wouldn’t wear tights without a dress or skort over them, nor should you wear leggings to school unless a uniform jumper or skort is over them.

CHICKA, CHICKA BOOM BOOM! Update
The north campus fertilized chicken eggs are still a little shy and continue to rest well in the incubator. We will update all on the Wolf Chicks as soon as we have more news.

Warmest Regards,

Terrence K. O’Rourke
Head of School
Pope Francis Global Academy

Our first ASK O'ROURKE question has been asked and answered. If you have a question that you think other parents might also have, please submit it  HERE. Thank you!

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Do you have a love for reading?
Do you enjoy interacting with children?
Do you have some free time during the day?

If you answered yes to all three of these questions,

than we would LOVE for you to donate your time and talent in the children’s library at Pope Francis Global Academy! You must be Virtus Trained.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Margaret Kinel at mkinel@pfgacademy.org for North and lgarrett@pfgacademy.org for South.

MRS. KINEL EARNS ARCHDIOCESAN AWARD!

Our school’s Deputy Principal earned the Christifideles Award on behalf of her parish, St. Eugene. Mrs. Kinel was on the School Advisory Committee from 2010 to 2015 and president for five of those years. She took on leader-ship positions for many of the parish fundraisers and was involved in their new technology committee. We are lucky to have such a dedicat-ed servant of the church as part of our school’s leadership team!  Con-gratulations to Mrs. Kinel!

It is High School Open House season and all 6th, 7th and 8th graders are encouraged to attend as many of these events at the schools they are interested in as possible.

SAVE THE DATES
Junior High parents - please mark your calendars. We are confirmed on dates for two High School recruitment events. On Monday night, November 20 from 6-8pm representatives from most all of the Catholic High Schools will be in attendance to share information with our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and parents.  On Tuesday, November 21 from 10am - 12 pm (a day off of school for parent teacher conferences) those same high school reps will be at our South Campus.  Families may attend either event- whichever works better for you - regardless of which campus you attend.

We have added a
page to our school website specifically to help families with the high school placement process. It includes a calendar of all Catholic High School Open Houses in the area. It is under the Student Life tab.

Also, the Archdiocese has put together a
handy timeline for parents of 7th and 8th graders.  Please print this out and post it somewhere handy.

Also, please remember that the
Catholic High School Test date has changed this year and will be on Saturday, December 2 at 8 am. As a reminder, this is the ONLY date and every Catholic High School will test at the same time. By this point you will need to know your student's top choice high school because that is where you will sit for the test.

Please take a minute to view this message from Cardinal Cupich!

The Archdiocese Office of Catholic Schools is continuing to  prepare for the implementation of tax credit scholarships for K-12 students which, if you qualify, would apply for next school year. They have posted a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document on their website and we encourage our parents to begin learning as much as possible about this opportunity. There is still much to be determined as the state finalizes the rules for SGOs (Scholarship Granting Organizations), student applications, etc. The best thing we can recommend for the moment is to try to read as much about it as possible as these decisions come down from the state.
We will inform you as we learn more.

THANK YOU TO THE VETS IN OUR COMMUNITIES!

We had a nice turn out for the Veterans Day Masses and Receptions over the last week. They shared stories and showed photos of their time in active duty with our country. A big thank you to those who attended and to those who helped plan the receptions.
CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM!
Mrs. Moroko came in to show the 6th graders how the fertilized chicken eggs are progressing in the incubator in Ms. DalSanto's room.
SEEN AROUND TOWN!  THAT IS SOME KIND OF WOLF SPIRIT!
MEET OUR TEACHERS - PAULINA WAGNER, KINDERGARTEN SOUTH

The beloved Kindergarten teacher at our South campus, Mrs. Wagner received her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Dominican University with a minor in sculpture. This is her second year teaching Kindergarten at Pope Francis, and she previously taught preschool for four years at Our Lady of Victory.

When not enjoying her time in the classroom, she enjoys traveling with her husband in the summer, going to Blackhawks games, and taking her dog Jax on walks in the forest preserve.

Mrs. Wagner and her husband are also very excited to share that they are currently preparing their hearts and home for their first baby, due in April!

The Mistletoe Market is beginning to get their volunteers lined up and they need your help!  Mistletoe Market is a Parents' Club "FUN-raiser" and fundraiser.  Money raised will support the great enrichment events for the kids that they sponsor, including things like the Secret Santa Workshop, Fat Tuesday Fun Fair, and assemblies or special projects like last year's puppet workshop. They also bring us events for parent and neighbors, like Tears and Cheers, the First Responders reception (after the First Responders Masses, like this week!) Bags and Bunco, etc.  And, they're huge supporters of our teachers providing Teacher Appreciation lunches, breakfasts, special treats like the Teacher Cookie Exchange, etc.
